Normally bigger. And 7 on this night typically do really well. But there is no AFL this year.

Agreed. Maybe over a million would be a reasonable prediction if there was a bit more hype, but somewhere between 800k and 900k in Total People (as per previous predictions from yours truly) is around what I’d expect for tonight’s first episode of Big Brother.

The series as a whole will probably average around 500k-600k mark in Total People. Demos will probably be a bit better, although I’m still expecting MasterChef to come out on top.

Well said. The Big Brother house looks good, but I’m certainly not expecting similar to be said about the quality of the content!

Ugh, don’t get me started again about the high ratings of MAFS (and other manufactured dating, relationship & wedding-themed shows such as Bachelor/ette) compared to the comparatively low ratings of higher quality content on the public broadcasters last year which more people would’ve seen via cutdown reviews on Gogglebox than their original airings!

Aside from the Matt Preston/Gary Mehigan factor, I think Seven actually have a bit more riding on Plate of Origin. It should be obvious by now that the network has had a strong desire to establish a successful second cooking format (whether as a ā€œcompanionā€ to MKR or a potential replacement for it in Q1 sometime down the track) for at least five years, as we’ve seen with the trials and failures of Restaurant Revolution, Aussie BBQ Heroes, Zumbo’s Just Desserts, Hell’s Kitchen Australia with Marco Pierre White and probably others.

I’m seeing a LOT of hype about the show. I’m thinking a million easy.

Sonia is the only lady wearing blue in the screenshots so I’m not sure who you are referring to then.

I agree I am thinking around 1.1 mill. It might take a hit on the second episode or even next week but it will do well tonight.

Don’t think it will crack 1 million, despite hype and heavy promotion. Just over 800K IMO.

Interesting to note that 7’s projections for Big Brother are quite low (better to be safe than sorry) but this was of course a projection to advertisers quite some time ago. I think it could reach around 800k and it won’t be too far off Masterchef and The Voice. Definitely a good idea to air it tonight after the long weekend instead of yesterday - the ratings dropped last night for all shows - both Masterchef and The Voice are usually around the 1 mil mark for metro viewers but last night both were in the 800k’s. Big Brother will get a boost from airing after a long weekend

Channel 7s constant Big Brother posting today on all the 7News social sites, including Live videos with Mike Goldman, is already getting annoying and tired. Leveraging Seven News so heavily IMO is targetting the wrong audience and all I see are comments from people saying it’s not news or they going to unfollow. It’s put me off more than anything. The odd article or post is fine but live videos on news sites talking about a TV show is a bit much. I think I’ll be watchimg 9News tonight.

I just saw a TV commentator (@MrTVAus) tweet this:
ā€œNine sending emails and mobile notifications for #TheVoiceAu tonight (hadn’t done this on other nights) ā€¦ā€
I realise that there’s competitiveness between the channels but this seems a bit tasteless imo.
It’s going to be hard for BB to score huge ratings considering it’s up against Masterchef and The Voice, not to mention HYBPA is on after Masterchef at 8:40 which has been scoring huge numbers recently.
The premiere seems a bit too long to me - if it starts at 7:30 and goes on until 9:18 I see a lot of viewers flicking on and off if it doesn’t draw attention and is uninteresting.

One wonders if sevens aging and right wing viewers will tune for a show they’d characterize as drivel? Are they that rusted on they’d watch a show that always catered for younger audiences?

Could somebody please record tonight’s broadcast in .TS format for the archivists on the forum and The Vault?

How is it tasteless?

Feels like they are scared that Big Brother will take some of their viewers tonight so they are trying to minimise the impact on their ratings.

What are the BB voices overseas like these days? I can’t get over this new voice. It’s so… robotic. Will reserve full judgement until I’ve seen the show, but I thought the idea is better with an authoritative voice?

Nine do that for not just The Voice but other shows quite a fair bit
