BBC News/World News

Yes, there would be presumably a fair few 4:3 CRT TVs in many parts of the world with access to World News or a TV station that runs their programming at some point during the day.

I was watching this video of Boris Johnson’s first speech as PM:

…and my god, that ‘Breaking’ super is WAY too big. It takes up a quarter of the screen. They really need to tone down that size. Hell, the other supers are way too big as well. The only thing I can think of that would spur them onto increasing text size would be for watching on mobile devices.

And I believe you have answered it. One of the main objectives was to make it suitable for mobile devices.

How do you write music for a story that changes every day?

BBC World News was having issues with their graphics tonight. The old graphics kept coming up despite them trying to turn them off. The (old) ticker would show up for a few seconds, get shut off and then would come up again. The old graphics were often mixing with the new ones as well.

Duplicate old and new graphics together:

More examples:

Eventually, the old graphics froze, half-transparent:

Then the graphics, both old and new, disappeared altogether, and then things went back to normal:

Has it anything to do with simulcasting BBC News (UK)?

I think it might. I don’t know how their systems work, but perhaps the domestic BBC News use triggers that refer to the old graphics.

The very first episode of Newsnight was never actually broadcast – the programme was kept off air for days. Here, Newsnight’s first ever editor and presenter reunite to explain why.

This week BBC World News was broadcasting from the rooftop of Celebro studios in Washington D.C. for the US Election.

After the weather turned bad, the panel and presenters had to relocate to the Celebro studio downstairs.

This may be due to current renovations happening to the studio as last month the broadcast did not come out of the regular studio.

Here is the regular studio for reference which debuted in September/October 2008.

Most of my comments are pure speculation. :slightly_smiling_face:

COVID-19: BBC OFFERS TV & ONLINE ADVERTISING SUPPORT TO PUBLIC HEALTH BODIES AROUND THE WORLD

BBC Global News – which operates the BBC’s 24 hour international news channel, BBC World News, and BBC.com – today announced plans to support international and governmental organisations by replacing up to 20% of its advertising inventory with opportunities for them to communicate their public health messages relating to the coronavirus crisis at no charge.

Major multilateral organisations and national health ministries whose aim is to communicate information to help protect citizens and stop the spread of the virus, should speak to BBC Global News’ advertising team (internationalsales@bbc.com) about opportunities to broadcast their messages to the BBC’s TV and online audiences outside the UK.

Jim Egan, CEO of BBC Global News, said, “Our job is to report on the developing crisis around the world in a period when people need news they can genuinely trust. But if we can support public health agencies in doing their job in these unprecedented times I feel we have a responsibility to help.”

In 2019 an average of 121 million people used BBC World News and BBC.com each week. Last week (16-22 March) a record number of people came to the BBC’s online news services - over 60 million (up by 50% on the average*) with more than 80% (49 million) consuming coronavirus coverage.

As well as covering the unfolding crisis each day, the BBC is striving to slow the spread of misinformation. In recent weeks numerous fake news stories have been circulated, particularly on social media, and the BBC’s fact-checking team, Reality Check, has routinely identified and fact-checked unfounded claims, utilising expertise from its journalists around the world.

In addition, extra coronavirus-related content has been commissioned in response to growing audience demand around the world. New programmes include Coronavirus: What You Need to Know - a new regular half hour programme presented by Victoria Derbyshire on BBC World News - which explains what the coronavirus is, how you can catch it, how to protect yourself and also features a group of experts answering questions sent in by viewers. Also new, Coronavirus Explained is a short daily update which will be broadcast on the channel across the day alongside the dedicated Coronavirus index on BBC.com and the daily Coronavirus Global Podcast .

BBC.com in Australia saw a record-breaking nine million unique visitors in the month of March 2020 up 62% year-on-year and the data also shows that BBC World News is the #1 international news channel, having moved up from second place in 2018.
