I’m a UK taxpayer - actually it’s on me.
As it happens, so am I
And you’re right… we deserve better. Though I suspect we might disagree slightly on what ‘better’ is… no matter. I suspect we both agree that the Beeb does NOT spend money wisely? Happy to take this to DMs if you want to discuss further
Thanks for the balanced debate!
Yea, not a huge BBC fan to be honest.
They don’t spend money wisely, underinvest in some areas - and some of the output (like the one show) is embarassing.
Huw Edwards has officially left the BBC.
Sad ending to a career. I hope he is able to focus on his health now.
Now that he has left, I wonder who will replace him as the BBC’s lead presenter.
High chance it will be Sophie Raworth, or possibly Fiona Bruce.
Any change would result in a reshuffle of presenters, which could open up a slot for one of the benched presenters.
What the hell is going on at the BBC?!
Well when you’re a married man in his 60s having an affair with a teenager paying $60 for x rated pics and you make $1 milliion a year on public airwaves - you’re gonna be shamed off the air yes. His health issues were self caused.
TBH, the only benefit of all the recent changes to BBC News has been Maryam getting a bigger profile. Such a great talent at the BBC.
She’s great… but weird those pre-recorded weather bits, woulda been nice if the weather man had a laugh with her.

also, World Business Report is being replaced!

Could this mean that Martine is about to return on air?
So it has been changed a bit! Can’t wait to see what’s been done to Studio E!
according to replies from her tweet she says she is rehearsing at the moment, but I think she will return in May.
Who will host BBC’s election coverage now?
Given that Laura Kuenssberg hosted the BBC’s coverage of local elections, I would say that she would host it. Or Fiona Bruce could present given that David Dimbleby hosted the coverage when he was presenter of Question Time.
What about Clive Myrie? Before the Huw Edwards scandal he was generally viewed as the second or third most senior presenter, behind Huw himself and potentially Fiona Bruce, and probably on par with Sophie Raworth. I could see him doing okay at hosting an election night.
From what I’ve seen, Sophie has been covering the days that Huw would present the 10pm news, so would more likely be her or Fiona.
It’s very interesting that nothing has been announced yet, when rumour has it the election could be called as early as this Monday… I have a feeling there is a bit of a stoush at the BBC over who will host it.
The ‘obvious’ choice would indeed be Laura Kuenssberg, but she is very divisive among viewers - many (myself included) think she’s a bit biased towards the Conservative Party. She’s also (again, others may disagree) a very poor presenter and interviewer. Great reporter, great at getting scoops, but not a great presenter at all.
Another option, which I think and hope will happen, is that they have two hosts. My preference would be Victoria Derbyshire, who is a brilliant interviewer, and someone who is really in touch with the audience, and possibly Clive Myrie? If it is two hosts then it will be a man and a woman, and male-wise they only really have Clive as a heavyweight.
Also (and please forgive me for going down this road!) if they do pick Clive it will be the first time (to my knowledge) that a black person has led a general election night. So that’s gotta count for something…
