Former BBC News (2004-21) and GB News (Mar-Dec 2021) anchor Simon McCoy is reportedly returning to replace the outgoing Yalda Hakim, according to Daily Mail of all places.

Update: Not happening.

Seems pretty embarrassing for BBC to lose a ‘chief presenter’ so soon. Their butchering of the news and world channels has been a disaster.

I’m sure certain politicians are happy that the BBC News organisation is a shambles.

Newsnight on BBC Two is reportedly facing changes from its current investigative reporting:

It doesn’t help that its long-running lead presenter, Kirsty Wark, is leaving the show after next election.

Over in the States, a new look World News America is coming with a new system.

Loud foghorns ahead judging by BBC News’ current graphics standards, and from this holding OTS graphic from Pres Cafe a few days earlier:

They look nice, but I will always love the original BBCWNA Theme music

Nice, they could adapt that for the regional news in the UK!

New programme on the half-hour block: Future Earth, hosted by Carl Nasman from the Washington bureau, focusing on climate change.

Branding wise, good news - it’s not red, but bad news - it’s still a circle, and uses standard BBC News beeps. The red supers obstructing the bottom doesn’t help either.

Ah yes the old ‘more resources to digital journalism’ again…which always seem to amount to very little.

57 people to make a little watched news show seems
Excessive

A tentpole show which generates content for the rest of the network. The Prince Andrew stuff wouldn’t have come to light without this ‘little watched news show’. You have such a small view of the value of things - it’s not all overnight numbers.

BBC has to cut ÂŁ500m this year alone from its budget. Tough decisions need to be made about where to divert funds.

Have you seen the quality of the 24/7 news channel lately?

Spending as much money as they did on news watch is not viable

Money is neeedd elsewhere.

Yes, money is desperately needed at the BBC - but I don’t think reducing Newsnight into yet another discussion programme is the answer. I mean how many discussion shows does the BBC need? There’s Question Time (which I think has probably had its day), Politics Live (which is abysmal - Q&A at its worst isn’t even half as bad) and many others between TV and radio.

As for the news channel, well, I suspect it may end up being closed down altogether. I would never have said this even 12 months ago but with what it’s turned into, closure might be for the best. I’d rather see Newsnight kept on in its current form than the god awful new style news channel.
