Hope Seven is watching - this is exactly what Eveleigh needs to look like.

Please no. There is much better industry leading sets across Europe and The US. BBC has barely caught up to where the rest of the world was 5 years ago

I was going to say, this new set is a little meh. It’s got space with different zones which is nice and will create some unique shots with depth, but the screens and tech are hardly revolutionary or even decent in size. Nine’s screen trumps their largest.

Also, by not accompanying it with a graphics overhaul, it gives off the same vibe as buying a brand new 4K TV and watching some old DVDs on it.

I like the way they have kind of hidden the cameras in the large black monoliths.

I know there are rumours of a huge refresh of BBC News next year with new titles and to be more in line with the corporate ā€œProject Chameleonā€ refresh of the BBC, but can’t help but feel how dragged out it all is - adopting the new corporate logo in April, new set in June and a huge relaunch next year. You’d think for a world class media organisation, they would be better than this to roll out this refresh…

Watch W1A if you haven’t already and you’ll see why

I was going to say that.
This curved screen feels off and not tall enough when the presenter is standing next to it.
It’s a nice new set otherwise, but definitely not revolutionary.

Amazing how little the titles have changed since 2008 though - really just the numeral in the globe and the box over the years. I can’t even categorise this under evolution rather than evolution

Bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better when it comes to presentation. For example, Nine has giant curved screens but their sets are a bit meh IMO - know that’s a controversial opinion on here but have never been wowed by it as much as some are.

Of course, but this is the BBC. I would think of them as a news organisation that would go all out with set size like Sky News UK.

The elephant in the room, is the BBC faces enormous cuts and forgoing a set that would appease many is highly unlikely. If this is all they could afford then so be it. The BBC is being squeezed and we shouldn’t forget that imho.

Edit

I think that new set looks fantastic, but I feel the desk should be an L shape not a curve, in keeping with the straight lines.

Also think maybe it’s time to move Breakfast back to London.

I’m not sure that’s accurate - Nine’s sets have been cleverly designed to make the screens (and overall set) look much larger than they actually are. Put Nine’s screen in a space 3-4 times larger and it would look tiny.

Having watched the couple of bulletins broadcast so far I do agree though it’s a little underwhelming. It’s a bunch of screens and a desk in the corner without any real concept to tie them together. Some of the angles are plain awful.

fun fact: even though they’re in the process of finally getting regional feeds, BBC One HD STILL doesn’t allow you to watch your regional news!

The use of the vertical screen is pretty cool.

Love the minimalism of the camera tracks and the cameras. Looks very sleek. I think overall the set is great. It just needs a new on air package to bring it to life. I find the existing graphics a bit lifeless.
