Australian Survivor

I thought it was a good reunion show, although it went a bit too long.
The final immunity challenge was another epic, with the final three asked to put one hand on a wooden idol going into the night. Jericho won that challenge after five hours and deservedly reached the final. He won the final vote 6-3 against Tara.
During ad breaks for Survivor I switched to 9GO! to keep up to date with the soccer scores.
Overall it was a good second season and I hope the show will be renewed.

The finale itself was a joke. I much preferred last year’s. The final immunity challenge went for a good 40 mins last night. It just killed any suspense and it was obvious Jericho would always win. It felt like the jury speeches took over 30 mins to get through as well. Every 2 or 3 there was an ad break. Annoying and boring outcome.

For me last year’s finale was the highlight of that season. Kristie’s win was much more exciting and that F3 challenge was exciting last year… the same challenge was not exciting a second time and it looked better during the day too.

With double the amount of airtime this season compared of a normal Survivor season, I just felt like by the reunion I didn’t need to know any more from anyone at this point. Despite being so long they still didn’t properly talk to everyone either so no real advantage… not that we even care about half the contestants in a 24 person cast anyway. I’ll be surprised if that reunion rates more than 500k. Prob less. Also not sure what JLP was doing trying to look identical to Probst.

I find it hard to believe that Tara lasted almost 3 hours in the final immunity challenge given how pathetic she has been during endurance based immunity challenges all season long. I can also not believe she got 3 jury votes. She deserved 1 at best and that’s being generous.

I feel like nobody was allowed to mention anything against Tara in regards to the fact that she actually got voted out earlier on. Geez if I was up against her or was making a pitch for Jericho to win thats what I would be saying. She didn’t deserve to win because she had been voted out. Pretty simple and it made Jericho the only worthy winner. Things like that not getting mentioned just seemed so suss to me.

Such a boring finale fitting for such a lacklustre season.

No surprise Tara falling out of the final challenge so early she has got to be one of the weakest players to make it that far in terms of physical strength, mental stamina and just general common sense.

You never really know where Jericho is going to go when he starts talking, some of his metaphors have been hilarious. But his final pitch and some of his answers to the jury missed the mark for me and were quite weak and repetitive, almost as weak as Tara who must have failed at English because she can barely string a cohesive sentence together.

Such a shame Tessa was booted from the Jury because she’s got quite the mouth on her. Luke and Locky’s questions/ramblings were a complete waste of time. As much as I hate Henry at least he brought some drama and theatrics to the finale. Jarrad’s questions/statements were probably the jury highlight for me.

Overall this season has been a drawn out hot mess of unnecessary twists and weak contestants. Not to mention a ratings disaster. I’m actually glad it’s finally over…but I’m sure I’ll get sucked in again next year…if its back.

I think people are over exaggerating when they say this season has been a ratings disaster. Yes the ratings were lower but not disastrous. It rated much better than most Ten shows and did well in the demos. Also compared to a lot of recent US seasons this season of Australian Survivor has been very good. As for Tara, she lasted nearly three hours in that challenge and for someone who is not that fit that is a great effort. I doubt most people on this forum could last that long.

This sums up my thoughts exactly. This season started out amazingly and the casting was much better than last year. Had it played out properly it would have been a decent season. It just fell apart though as it went on. The producer interference killed gameplay and the episodes became way too long and drawn out as it went on, not to mention such an underwhelming final 3.

I would say it’s 50/50 if it will get renewed. It is very expensive to produce so I’m not sure if cost and ratings are justified but we have no idea on if it’s generated much revenue or not. That’s up to Ten. Most likely it’s easy just to green light it again and if it doesn’t improve next year it will be gone for good.

The only way I see any potential for ratings improvement next year is to shorten it by at least 4 episodes, reduce episode length and have someone voted off every episode. They are also at the point where like the US seasons they need a new angle to promote the season to differentiate it - either a location change or implement a theme for the next season is exactly what It’ll need.

Renewed for 2018 with ā€œChampions v Contendersā€ theme.

What an absolute joke. So in an effort to save the show from declining ratings they think that casting a tribe of celebrities is going to help things? This is as gimmicky as it gets and I can assure you that the Survivor fan base want to see superfans on the show… not D grade celebs! The post on the facebook page has been swamped with unimpressed comments.

I agree that they need a theme or something next season to differentiate it and provide a promoting angle but there is so much that they could have done other than this. Males vs Females, Themed tribes, Blood vs Water, A new location etc. Instead they go with celebs. Zzzzzzz.

I am assuming the champions could be people like firefighters, police officers, Guinness book record holders etc. The US have done something similar. I hope they aren’t ā€˜celebrities’.

I’d say they will probably be athletes of the calibre that you saw this year on the show like the Olympian triathlete, kayaker and endurance athlete. Were there more?

Now you’ll have a whole team of them vs others.

According to Fairfax The ā€œChampionsā€ are ā€œhigh profileā€ sportspeople and entertainers

Well that is a pity.

The facebook page also confirms that they are high profile sports people and entertainers.

I don’t know who at Ten are making these stupid decisions. They already have a clebrity survival show.

This is how you wreck two franchises.

You guys are hard to please. You’re lucky to have been given a re-sign on 2017’s ratings figures!

I could card less about either but it’s the principle of the thing.

I would rather they axed the show than go down the celebrity route.

According to the auditions it looks like its not comedians or sports peiple or just celebrities with the it saying champions of their chosen field. So that could potentially leave anyone. I like the sound of it more now.

Apparently filming will take place in April to June 2018 for 10-12 weeks. The first two seasons on Ten were filmed in May to July with contestants staying for 55 days each during competition. Does it mean next season will be a bit longer?
