@blackbox has heard from multiple sources that there were tensions between JLP and a high-level producer on the show, which might or might not be related to Jonathan’s sacking last year. One source said:
Jonathan wanted to be involved in the show’s creative process and often pitched ideas he believed would improve the program. However, Production rarely entertained them. They wanted a host who would simply deliver the lines and direction they envisioned, but Jonathan wasn’t that person.
Adan Cooney and Heath Shaw are hardly D-grade celebs, they are two well known ex-AFL footballers who both played for two clubs.
AFL is supposedly a national game these days and has lots of fans Australia wide. Shaw played for Collingwood in Melbourne and then GWS in Sydney, Cooney played for Western Bulldogs and Essendon and is a Brownlow Medal winner. If viewers don’t know them then theres always Google! I Google Love Island etc, contestants on other shows.
We don’t need to get into a debate about the level of celebrity. It’s a figure of speech. It doesn’t change the point I was making that they can’t just have a normal season with actual fans that applied. Instead they constantly stunt cast by sprinkling each season with some known names (whether that’s celebs or returning contestants). It is tired. Either do a full-blown celeb season or returnee season or a newbie season. We don’t need a mesh of all 3 almost every time.
