Australian Survivor

David looks awkward in every clip, not how I ever imagined him hosting.

This looks like a temu season.

Let The Games Begin… This February.

Get Your First Look At Australian Survivor: Redemption.

For its epic 12th season, Australian Survivor is offering 24 castaways a rare shot at one thing they are all hungry for: Redemption.

This year, our players each enter with a personal mission, something to prove or a regret to make right. They are not just playing for the title of Sole Survivor; they are playing to rewrite the story of who they are.

Hosted by two-time player and winner of Australian Survivor: All Stars, David Genat, this will be an unmissable season set to push our players to the brink.

Returning players Brooke Jowett, Harry Hills, Simon Mee, and Mark Warnock aren’t the only ones taking on this season, as they are joined by Big Brother’s Johnson Ashak, and The Traitors New Zealand’s Cat Hooker.

Rounding out the cast are pro wrestler Jackson, MMA fighter Cameron, CEO Richard, AFL player Ben, acupuncturist Blanche, students Tez and Sally, chef Faith, fraud prevention specialist Keeley, truck driver Caleb, country music star Don, model Lyndl, stay-at-home mum Loz, vet nurse Paula, pastor Daniel, artist Lottie, NDIS support worker Aisha, and writer Eliza.

Over 45 days, our players will battle the elements, hunger, exhaustion, and each other in

the hopes of making it to the end and taking home the title of Sole Survivor and a life-changing $500,000.

A new chapter begins this February on 10.

Survivors ready? Because the countdown is on!

On Monday, February 23, at 7.30pm, the brand-new season of Australian Survivor: Redemption premieres, and one castaway isn’t just looking for redemption; he’s looking to blow the whole game up.

Our brand-new host, David Genat teased the move, saying: “I’m a firm believer that all is fair in love, war and Survivor, but this is probably the biggest betrayal we’ve ever seen.

“The action does not stop this season,” David added. “I was in awe of the ruthless gameplay. The players had something to prove, and they all wanted it. Nothing was going to get left out on the sand."

This season, four returning players, Harry, Brooke, Simon and Mark, are each hungry for their next shot at the title of Sole Survivor. But with massive targets on their backs, they will need to fight like never before to make sure the newbies on the beach don’t beat them to the punch.

And with each player coming into the game with something to prove or a regret to make right, this season will be ruthless, relentless and full of redemption for one player.

From February 23 Australian Survivor: Redemption launches with a mix of new and returning players.

“The majority are new people, and every single one of them has a reason why they want to come and seek redemption in our new series, which is a really interesting new way to do Survivor without the ‘vs.’ That all starts playing out in Ep 1 and there’s a really great twist in Ep 1 that viewers will have to tune in to see,” Simoneau teases.

Former contestant David Genat succeeds Jonathan LaPaglia as host, a twist nobody saw coming. While speculation has swirled around the reasons behind that decision, 10 is still keeping their cards close to their chest.

“Shows are always evolving, especially those with long tenures like Survivor. It’s one of our biggest hits and that’s because fans love the twists and turns. This format is all about the game and the players, so having a former player and winner at the helm brings a new energy and perspective to the hosting role. David is a natural and has done a terrific job.”

‘I wouldn’t be super stoked’: Survivor host David Genat on his predecessor being ‘blindsided’

When Genat competed on the Australia V The World season last year, he had no idea he’d end up being asked to take over from LaPaglia.

Nor did LaPaglia, who received a call from his Australian agent not long after the season wrapped to let him know he was being axed. Once the news went public, Genat exchanged friendly text messages with the outgoing host.

“I wouldn’t say that Jonathan and I were friends,” he explains.

“I didn’t know him that well but we were friendly. Cordial. When I was a contestant, I reached out when everything was happening, just to say, ‘Listen, dude, it obviously has nothing to do with me, but I just wanted to tell you, I think you’ve been an amazing host. What you’ve done for this franchise, no-one can replicate that. I’m just going to try to do my best to pay homage to what you’ve done.’”

Genat is surprised LaPaglia claims to have been blindsided, and points out there had been auditions and screen tests for the hosting job for at least five years prior to him getting the role.

“If he didn’t know the change was around the corner, then I don’t know what to say,” he tells Stellar. “But that’s how these things go, if they’re looking to change things, or people aren’t getting along.”

He doesn’t anticipate receiving any feedback from LaPaglia once the new series goes to air. As he reasons, “If someone had taken my place, I wouldn’t be super stoked with them, either.”

David Genat will make an appearance at the St Kilda Festival in Melbourne this Sunday (February 15). 10 is a major partner of the festival through Australian Survivor.

Entertainment Weekly interview with David Genat

David Genat is on the TV Week cover.

So according to tv weeks headline on socials, he’s been auditioning for 5 years for the role???

That does roughly line up with when Johnathan was talking in interviews about being warn out/missing his family etc. It gave the impression he wasn’t going to last much longer. That’s probably when production thought they should have a back up plan.

They had filmed 2 seasons back to back in 2019, but then the second season had a delayed airing due to covid. Maybe that extra long break between those and the next season filming kept him on board. :man_shrugging:

The show premieres on TVNZ 2 in New Zealand on Tuesday, March 3, just after 9.30pm.

I had a chat with David Genat ahead of the premiere:

Thank you, Aaron. Great interview as usual. David seems like he’s really into the role. Looking forward to it.
