Australian Survivor

I wonder what the delay is. Objection from CBS?

I for one am a fan of the longer episodes - the thing you do is record them & then skip the ads

I do it with both Survivor & MAFS

Yeah I do it with most things. But I am watching this live and it is nearly unbearable with ads and the length. I don’t mind longer episodes but not this long and slow.

Past seasons have made a real effort to start strong and fast paced. Even if it means some contestants didn’t get an intro until 2 weeks in. Why change it. Feels like they are overestimating the audiences attention span. Reality tv needs to be instant gratification.

This is scheduled to finish at 9.15 yet here are are just going to Tribal?? It is such a predictable vote that is just being milked for all of its life.

wtf was that?

It improved a bit towards the end. That was a good twist with the idol. But nowhere near up to the standard of past season openers. Chrissy seems like she’s putting on an act to me. Andy clearly didn’t learn anything from his first season.

I think my favourite is Croc.

Not sure the situation in the US but here in the UK they appear on Amazon but not whilst they’re airing, so the series will probably not be put up until they can put it up in full, though probably still be a few months later.

I’m weighing up whether to wait for the official source - Amazon here now have a few seasons of the South African version which is supposed to be really good. And I think apart from the premiere and finale all the episodes clock in at a nice concise 45 minutes.

Hopefully this is aired every episode.

The seasons in Fiji and Samoa featured tribe names and motifs from the local indigenous culture. As do most of the US seasons. Wonder why that stopped as soon as they came to Australia? Seems very deliberate.

I wonder what the ratings would have been like for Survivor in Charters Towers last night

And that is why I hate blood versus water seasons.

Seriously what was the point of the reward challenge when blue team just gave red team half of their reward anyway. Pointless.

Then there has been the hyperbolic tribals. Both have been very obvious boots without a hint of a massive or risky move despite the endless nauseating promos saying otherwise. Andy’s boot was a foregone conclusion. Sneaky, untrustworthy and inserting himself as a leader around camp.

Briana (loved her too) was a nice, safe and easy vote. Though why on earth didn’t they flush Shay’s idol and still vote out Briana. Now you have a bottom feeder with an idol. Almost as smart as Chrissie burning her idol for nothing.

Despite the overall flaw of the theme of the season, casting seems really good. Lots of likable and memorable characters.

However despite casting the season just feels very meh. Very lucklustre and a hint of being boring. You would think they would mix things up a bit with another season airing so close to the last and in a very similar location no less.

Insanely physical challenges, two tribes of 12, another redundant Vs grudge match, not much of a variety in challenges to highlight other skillsets.

Maybe I just have Survivor burnout after the 41 shitfest. Or maybe two seasons of 24 episodes at usually 90 minutes is just too much in sixth months as well as the US edition.

I thought they did have tribe names last year.

I assumed the tribe names are simple this year with blood vs water.

They had Brain vs Brawn tribe names last year. But apart from All Stars they’ve stuck to simple tribe names since S3. They could have named their tribe after indigenous names in Queensland but instead chose the boring option.

I was sure Kara named the tribe after merge

George named it the Fire tribe I think

It’s not just the tribe names. The shows logo, the symbols in the graphics, the immunity trophy, the props in challenges or the pattern on the puzzles. They usually are done in local indigenous style and use local symbolism. The last 2 years in Australia they have gone with an Aztec looking theme. Doesn’t make any sense.

It makes perfect sense. They would’ve consulted with the local indigenous leaders, who would’ve requested they not use their heritage in a tokenistic way.

I’ve been following Kahn on Instagram for years. Him and mark go back a long way, they appear in each other’s posts all the time. Very strange seeing them talk as if they are total strangers to each other tonight.
