Australian Survivor

Ah yes Joey. He has an ‘Attention-seeker’ vibe about him. Could be entertaining later in this season if he survives.

But if one of that alliance had found the idol, their preferred target of George would have been voted out.

I kinda get the points about all the twists and turns being producer intervention but as a more casual fan I am really enjoying this season.

Maybe I just haven’t watched enough of Survivor but I loved the Tribal Council last night and the twist with Cara getting shipped off to the brawn team.

It is a little tiring that there are immunity idols in every single episode, they definitely seem more frequent that in previous episodes/seasons I have watched.

Sundays promo does look pretty epic though.

I get the feeling like in BB that they expected George to go but he was good TV so he was going to go to the brawn tribe but Cara did something unexpected. Or it could all be scripted who knows.

Cara revealed that she was quite prepared to go home, having decided she no longer wanted to be around the “negativity” of her tribemates, particularly towards George.

Cara’s stand didn’t result in her elimination from the game – after she left tribal council, a twist meant she was saved from elimination and will now move to the Brawn tribe. But she says she had no prior knowledge of that twist, and had “made peace” with the idea of leaving Survivor for good.

There are reports that former contestant Luke Toki is taking part in Big Brother VIP which started filming at Sydney Olympic Park on Friday (July 30). If that is true, I wonder what will happen (or has happened) to the Talking Tribal podcast. Could it have been all pre-recorded?

He’s a VIP?

Good tribal tonight

That was a great blindside, the look on Laura and Georgia’s face was priceless. Very well played by Hayley.

Seems like it’s the inappropriately early tribe swap tomorrow again!? Why do they always do this? It felt like it was about to get good with the current dynamics.

Woot, what an episode.

The arrogance and ego that was Joey finally got his comeuppance. I do like the villainous edit where they eventually get their comeuppance but I don’t need dozens of confessionals of the individual acting smug and saying the exact same thing seemingly dozens of times.

PMSL. Wai is just so delusional. She acts as if she had a choice by originally aligning with George, she didn’t. She was extremely lucky her ass got saved in the first vote and as proven correct in this episode she was the alternate vote. Fancy her never seeing that coming. Rolls eyes. Double eye roll at her having to be convinced by Hayley to make a smart strategic move instead of being on the bottom of a majority in which no one respected her.

I also didn’t appreciate her comments regarding George being volatile. He’s very clear headed in his strategy and remarkably focused. His only seemingly volatility is being lied to, betrayed and being singled out for ridicule and that’s down to a very specific set of circumstances with clear reasons and he is able to move on. She acts as if he’s unhinged or paranoid without cause. Heaven forbid he has a human reaction to certain events.

Glad to see Hayley make a move and even more kudos having to wrangle Wai and Rachel, that cannot have been easy.

I loathe Georgia, but I do love her resting bitch face and perpetual smug snarl. It’s certainly the best I’ve ever seen.

Laura is just a mess. She comes to tribal with her gut hanging out, a rats nest on top of her head and the filthiest, grimiest look imaginable; like something out of the Flintstones. Not gonna lie though I loved it. Pretty iconic and the shocked and vacant expressions were the cherry on top.

Favourite moment of the episode was easily Rachel get dragged through the net like a dead fish.

Another highlight was Simon talking up his emotional intelligence and trying to bond with Cara about…menopause of all things in such a hamfisted way we even got the doofus music. Hilarious.

Loved the Cara bonding with her new tribe and enjoyed the Deanna Troi tutorials.

Good to see Shannon try and make some moves with Cara and was shocked to learn Big D had flipped for good. I just expected him to ride the middle but side with the girls.

Loved the immunity challenge and I’m probably in the minority but I loved placing an idol at a challenge in such a brazen way. It certainly added to the chaos.

Great summary of the episode. Have to agree with many of your commentary.

I’m getting tired of the brains tribe. It’s the same old narrative every time. George is set to go but somehow survives another day. Surely he will be the biggest target come a tribe swap. Nobody else has had this many lives.

Looks like Wei might injure herself in a challenge tonight. Also they swapping tribes already to try and save George as we didn’t even get to see what power Cara had in the brawns tribe or if she was easy pickings.

I really liked Joey. Hope he turns up next season in blood vs water

Well Cara fucked that up big time.

Laura was extremely lucky. I feel like she didn’t even understand the risk she was taking playing her idol for someone else when there was a 2/3 chance she was being targeted and didn’t have the numbers.

Even if she did know she wasn’t the one being voted for, whoever she played the idol for would just mean the other person in her alliance would go home. Terrible strategy, but got off on pure luck.

I think Laura assumed the others weren’t splitting their votes.

Cara’s stuff up was classic. Has that ever happened before?

How many twists did the producers need? First there was Cara switching tribes (temporarily), now the tribe swap. In tomorrow’s episode it would be individual immunity, double tribal and (perhaps) double exile?

In season 1 (2016) there was a swapped tribe where 5 were one one side and 4 were on the other. Phoebe who was part of the 4 had an idol and knew the votes were going here way so she played the idol on herself with the idea the 4 of them would vote out Sue (a member of the 5) and that Sue would be voted out in a 4-0 vote. However, among the 4, there were 2 members that did not get along (Kat and Rohan). Kat and Rohan decided to go against Phoebe’s plan and voted against each other. Kat was able to convince the other remaining member of the 4 (Kristie) to join her in voting for Rohan. The final vote ended up being 5-2-1-1 with the 5 votes for Phoebe being nullified by the idol. Rohan voting Kat ended up assisting in his blindside where he went home. After this the remaining members of the minority group were essentially pagonged one by one except for one round and for one member (Kristie) who went on to make merge in win. Apologies if you had known this already. Whilst tonight Cara has just simply screwed up, yes this happened before where the votes were meant to go one way with an idol being involved and one person has actually caused an unintentional elimination.

I can’t believe how dumb that vote was last night. Laura’s name was not even in the mix. How could you get that so wrong?

Tribe swaps are standard and happen in almost every Survivor season so I have no issue with it. I agree otherwise though that there are way too many twists and advantages. As of last night there were 4 idols in the game and we’ve had idols/advantages played at most Tribal Councils. It’s too much.

Also there is no way that two people are going home in a single vote tonight when they have at least two extra non-elimination episodes to make up. It will definitely be going to exile, or switching tribes or some silly gimmick.
