Somebody at the time mentioned it had similar elements to Three/Four In A Bed. But I didn’t watch it so not sure how it works.
Let’s please stick to topic rather than track back the origin of every show made
I watched this reluctantly last night with mum, she did think she was watching a shit version of ninja.
All the contestants look like they’re high as a kite on cocaine and have been on a 21-day-bender.
The only half redeeming feature of this show is Del.
They’ve copied nine by having the sorta-young blonde newsreader who thinks she’s funny and a blokey brunette middle aged dude who also hosts a sports show, and thinks he’s God’s gift (they both talk way too much and should leave commentary to Del).
A lot like MKR really.
Cooking is substance. Do you see any cooking in MAFS? I didn’t think so…
Brother, take your own advice and ‘let it go’. You can’t ask that and not do the same.
Cooking hasn’t been the focal point of MKR for at least the past 4 seasons. The show has zero substance.
If Seven are going to directly rip off ideas from Nine then it needs to actually produce a better product. Spartan paled in comparison to Ninja Warrior. The ratings are proof of that.
Perhaps focus on some original ideas.

The premiere was rushed and should’ve been held back until the fourth quarter once all other shows are finished. Ratings last night were well below expectations despite being heavily promoted last week during the Winter Olympics.
We watched it together as a family thinking like Ninja it would be a good family watch
14 year old girl walked out after 30 mins preferring to watch youtube
We stuck with it, however while it had the ‘ooooooh’ , ‘ahhhhhhhh’ moments, not sure we will be back.
Felt a bit flatter than Ninja, maybe it’s not as easy to connect to a team as it is to individuals ??
Channel Nine drops plans to sue Channel 7 over Australian Spartan’s knock off of Australian Ninja Warrior show
Last week came talk Nine, wrong-footed by Seven’s bold programming move, was keeping an eye on Spartan and weighing up whether it would sue Seven for stealing the concept of its top-rating Ninja Warrior. A Nine spokeswoman today said Nine would not be proceeding.
I’d imagine that Nine dropped the lawsuit plans after they saw Sunday night’s ratings for Australian Spartan…
The article suggests that was probably the reason but I don’t see how this legal challenge could have succeeded anyway.
Australian Ninja Warrior is based on American Ninja Warrior on NBC which was based on Japanese show Sasuke (Ninja Warrior).
Australian Spartan is based on Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge also on NBC, which was based on Spartan Race.
Perhaps Nine were going to argue that the way Seven had adapted the international format for Australian TV was remarkably similar to the way Nine had adapted their international format.
100% correct. JBar, perhaps you should watch American Spartan… then you’d understand why Nine could have, and would have likely won.
I wouldn’t lower myself to watch either.
Well there seem to be no plans as yet to move Spartan from its Sunday 7:00 timeslot. The promos for next week’s episode are still for Sunday. Maybe Seven thinks the ratings will improve? It’s not completely out of the question, after all House Rules built throughout its premiere season remember, when people made fun of it and it’s bad ratings at first. Now look where it is…
Nine could never have won a legal challenge if they went ahead with it; they would be taking on the whole Spartan brand worldwide. Why hasn’t international Ninja Warrior taken on international Spartan yet, yet the moment it comes to Australia all sorts of fights begin on their similarities???
I think seven adapted the Spartan brand though…
