Like every other show of this type, the commentators are there to yell and oversell every miniscule event. Edwina is as annoying, and currently as overexposed, as Hamish.
typical
As for the commentary, Bec Maddern and Ben Fordham on “Ninja Warrior” were more irritating than Edwina and Hamish.
I like having “The Big Del” (Wendell Sailor) on the sidelines though.
Yep, those two are both annoying too. Hence why I said “like every other show of this type”. Would be a 6 way dead heat if you added in Sailor and Flintoff in who is the most annoying.
Comments on Twitter have most been negative. Of course there are complaints that Spartan is a copy of Australian Ninja Warrior.
For heavens sake, so what if it is similar to Ninja Warrior? There aren’t many shows of this format so people who liked Ninja Warrior should like this. Make no mistake, I will be so mad if this gets destroyed yet NW continues to succeed just because Nine came up with the genre idea first!!!
Watched a few minutes. Could’ve done with some low background music during the events - seemed very odd to just have the commentary and a smattering of cheering from the crowd.
Children are dying in Syria yet a tv show not rating well has he potential to anger you. Get a grip. It’s just some shitty tv show.
How dare they go out on a limb and do their show first?!? How dare they be rewarded for that!!
I know right - it disgusts me that not only does a network takes a risk with an ‘untested’ show but then they rewarded by the viewing public after they liked it!!!
Seven had their opportunity to “get in first” with the format but they rejected Ninja Warrior and Nine picked it up. They only have themselves to blame if audiences turn their noses up at a pale imitation.
But Spartan and Ninja Warrior exist side by side in other places around the world, why is it such a problem here in Australia??
A lot of negativity about Australian spartan on Twitter.
Tuning into 10 minutes of the show and I couldnt see a difference between this and Ninja Warrior apart from this being team based whilst Ninja was an individual competition.
Sounds fan…floptastic.
Here’s some Neilsen figures re Twitter activity posted by Nine’s head of trade and internal comms, in response to a user’s rudimentary ‘analysis’ of the performance of Spartan vs MAFS in the capitals last night.

Agreed. At the risk of generalising, the bulk of the older demographics aren’t gonna be tweeting their way through their Sunday evening viewing. The Neilsen report is about as reasonable a barometer for Twitter trends in the younger demos as we’re going to get for now, but that’s a discussion for another thread.
Ouchie. 816k and essentially doubled by MAFS in total people and all key demos.
Probably got what it deserves. Will no doubt soften in coming weeks.
Some on here maybe cowering in the corner in the foetal position this morning.
Saw the first episode last night. It was badly edited. There were several occasions when they joined a team in progress, one team was not shown until it reached the 45 degree wall.
