Australian Ninja Warrior

It would have been Ben Fordham.

For what it is worth I caught up on this show yesterday afternoon and found it more than long enough even with the ability to fast forward.

The scale of the challenges and production are great, but Bec and Ben were both far too OTT for me to take them seriously. So many cringe worthy lines from both of them.

Networks are running scared now about putting anything up against ANW.

Little Big Shits is now being held off and Australian Survivor is worried about when to launch because they think Nine will dig up cutting room floor footage to make new eps and specials, which I can totally see happening.

The Block’s launch date has been announced by Nine as 30 July. Ten has announced that Australian Survivor will launch on the same day.

Excuse my ignorance but what does “Ninja Warrior” have to do with climbing up ramps and swinging on rings and ropes? Is that what Ninjas do?

Well that was awkward.

I mean, I wouldn’t say that’s not in the job description.

What was?

There was a deaf man and he got disqualified but kept going as he didn’t realise. It was really awkward as a producer had to get on the course and stop him. He was then told by his step son that he had to stop. Cringeworthy at it’s highest.

Yep - the reasonable thing would’ve been to cut away to a replay of the disqualification (in this case, his foot coming into contact with the water on the first obstacle) and then cut to him coming down from the course. But no, that would involve far too much dignity.

The Ninjas Twitter popularity was well down from last week’s highs and this segment received a negative reaction.

No wonder. Why wouldn’t they have foreseen the situation and not have had visual signals for the deaf contestant?

I’m mixed on this one, it sure looked awkward and you gotta feel for the guy but that’s nothing that a hearing impaired person wouldn’t go through throughout their lives anyway. My friend who is deaf commented on this tonight and didn’t have a problem with what happened at all, it seems to be everyone else up in arms over this.

The rules are pretty clear also and his foot clearly hit the water as he could be seen wiping it off, also all the lights on the course changed from blue to red indicating it was over so surely he would’ve noticed. All of which would have been translated back to him, no doubt by his son before starting the course.

Nine is understood to have renewed this for a second season and is looking to make international specials.

Bit premature after only two episodes. I can see a show like this fizzling out after one season.

It’s been four episodes now and it has so far sustained its launch figure (1.6m last Sun/Mon, 1.5m on Tue) so not premature at all for them to be renewing for a second season.

The show has had enduring success for many years overseas and I see no reason why it couldn’t here as well if Nine plays their cards right.

Well that prediction went awry

It’s a format I always felt would play well in Australia. Trouble is now it’s been successful for Nine it’ll come back four nights a week for weeks on end.
