They would already be in Sydney.
I know they are in Sydney rehearsing, but I reckon their minds will be on their own families and friends back home.
They should just postpone the show for a week.
That may not be possible pending how long production company Eureka has booked Sydney Coliseum for.
The venue’s next event (following Idol grand final) is Spellbound on April 24.
Ricki-Lee will be the headline artist on Mandurah Crab Fest in south west WA next Sunday (March 16). She will be on stage at 5pm local time to close out the two-day festival.
Free crab roll with every ticket?
Performing on part 1 of top 12 tonight were: Jake, Illysh, Bony, Emma, Mzuki and Gisella. At the end of tonight’s performance, the judges would send one contestant to the next round. Voting close at 7pm AEDT the next night.
The performances of the other six contestants will then air on Monday night, with a new round of text voting.
Two contestants will then be eliminated on Tuesday’s episode.
Ricki-Lee briefly touched on Cyclone Alfred which is affecting SE Queensland and northern NSW, and Amy confessed that she almost missed the top 12 performance (filmed on Saturday night) as she had to drive all the way down to Sydney.
When can we see Ricki-Lee on the judging panel again?
As the number of top 12 contestants dwindle, the performance show will be shown as a whole on the Sunday night (filmed on the night before), and the results show moves from Tuesday to Monday night.
Tickets to week 3 (March 22 and 24) and week 4 (March 29 and 31) are now available at That’s the Ticket website.
The top 12 features in this week’s issue of TV Week (with Sam Pang and the cast of Neighbours sharing the cover). John was seen reading an advance copy during an intro video for his performance in last night’s episode.
Australia decides their Top 10 Idols
Elimination result stuns judges as powerhouse performer departs
Tonight, Mzuki and Aaliyah Dechesne were eliminated from Australian Idol after the nation voted for their Top 10 contestants on Seven and 7plus.
Before Australia’s votes were revealed, the Top 12 lit up the stage with a spectacular group performance of their single, Listen To The Music. Their rousing rendition of the Doobie Brothers classic is officially #1 on iTunes and available to download here.
Hosts Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie revealed that only a handful of votes separated those who progressed through the competition and those who faced potential elimination.
Landing in the bottom four were rapper Mzuki, 28, from VIC; auto-tune artist Bony Onyango, 25, from QLD; disco queen Hannah Waddell, 25, from WA; and 27-year-old powerhouse performer Aaliyah Dechesne, from NSW.
Rock chick Iilysh Retallick, 17, from NSW and uber-talented Marshall Hamburger, 19, from QLD, were safe from the public vote after the judges sent them straight to the Top 10 after the performance shows.
Australian Idol judges Marcia Hines, Kyle Sandilands, and Amy Shark reacted to the verdict: “I have fallen in love with all of them, it doesn’t matter who goes, it sucks,” Amy said.
The bottom four artists took to the stage again to prove they deserved a spot in the Top 10.
Bony’s stage presence enthralled the crowd on Jay Sean’s Down, while Mzuki once again shone the spotlight on rap during her powerful performance of Players by Coi Leray.
Aaliyah’s spectacular performance of Who’s Loving You by The Jackson 5 earned a standing ovation from the judges, while Hannah proved her disco prowess on Blondie’s Heart of Glass.
On leaving the competition, Mzuki said: “Thank you, Australia. Thank you for having me, and to everyone who voted for me. I am going to keep going.”
Kyle called Mzuki’s elimination a “disappointment,” declaring he hoped a rapper would get all the way through Australian Idol.
“It’s a shame. Keep in touch. When you put a record out, I would love to have the chance to play it for you,” Kyle added.
After her departure, a grateful Aaliyah thanked the judges for “seeing something in me when I didn’t even see it in myself.”
“I will continue on my musical journey.” She added
Marcia said: “Thank you for your grace, your talent, and your humility.”

Sunday night on Australian Idol: Celebrities from around the globe choose the songs our Idols will perform as the Top 10 take to the stage again in a bid to make the Top 8.
I don’t get why the bottom two from each group had to do a “sing-off” to prove why they had to stay in to the show. Since the votes where in, and the one with the lowest votes was going home anyway. Just proved that it was more of a filler than anything. To make it a 75 minute show, than a standard 60 minute eviction show. If the judges chose from the bottom two, then different story.
Grand Final is Monday April 7.
I also don’t understand why one contestant from each group was eliminated, rather than the two contestants with the lowest votes from the entire top 12.
Also, Scott and Ricki-Lee said several times during tonight’s show that the top 12’s rendition of Listen to the Music is “No.1 on the charts”. I wonder which chart they were referring to.
It says above
Their rousing rendition of the Doobie Brothers classic is officially #1 on iTunes and available to download here.
The episode was painfully slow and should be able to be done in an hour. It was just constant recaps, getting the judges to provide commentary on absolutely everything and Scott/Ricki reading results just felt painful. We also don’t need judges to comments on these bottom performances (that go for like a minute) which feel like not much effort has gone into the performance as well.
I know the results show have always been a lot of filler but I almost found this unbearable to watch last night. The old Idol at least when it got to the results part (even if it was just the last 15-20 mins of the episode) at least got through it in one go. They now just stretch the process out for more than an hour. It would have been better to have Marcia perform last night and speed other parts up. I also preferred old Idol where the eliminated contestant performed, rather than pointless performance before elimination.
It really was a major stretch to call it the biggest song in the country (or there were words similar to that by Ricki-Lee) based on iTunes. Nobody looks at iTunes charts anymore as it is basically dead. #1 on iTunes is not really an achievement anymore. You can literally top the chart with less than 100 sales. The song isn’t even in the top 200 in the Australian daily Spotify chart.
That’s exactly why I asked last night which chart the hosts were referring to when they said that the song was No.1. The lowly status of iTunes chart means nothing really.
Riki just explained this on radio saying that it’s the last chance for the artists to show to Australia what they can do before being voted out. So they can I guess build fans or chances in the industry etc
I guess they are doing that instead of making the person who got voted out sing after knowing they are gone type thing.
It’s branded Superstar Week according to a new promo aired during The Front Bar tonight. Spice Girl Emma Bunton is one of the celebrities who choose the songs.
Gisella’s Defying Gravity from Sunday has almost racked up 100k likes on Instagram and over 2.5m views.
