Australian Idol

New audition promo aired tonight during 7News, featuring 20-year-old Jaymon from Rockhampton.

Trading the tools for the stage

Will handyman Jaymon be Australia’s next Idol?

Rockhampton handyman Jaymon wants to trade the tools for music fame when star-making series Australian Idol returns to Channel 7 and 7plus in 2025.

The 22-year-old proud Indigenous man wants to represent his community and realise his lifelong dream of becoming a full-time musician.

“Growing up as an Indigenous kid, I’d love to inspire other kids to chase their dreams and give everything a crack!” said the laid-back Queenslander.

During his audition, Jaymon impressed the judges with a stunning acoustic version of Ronan Keating’s take on Garth Brooks’ If Tomorrow Never Comes.

“One contestant after another, you’ve got no idea what they’re going to do. Then, every now and again, a gem walks through the door,” said Judge Kyle Sandilands of Jaymon’s performance.

I wonder what episode of Idol she had recorded.

In her radio show, Rikki said she went in that day to do some voice-over work for the show. They probably filmed some intros and links for the audition episodes as well

BBL final is Monday 27th Jan. so when does Idol start? They probably don’t want to give MAFS & Survivor a headstart. 28th Tuesday maybe?

Survivor won’t be starting on 27 January if I’m a Celebrity is only starting 8 days before.

Does this mean the new season of Australian Idol won’t start until February? There is no way Seven will air the first audition episode on the Wednesday.

It could start Sunday 2nd Feb or Monday 3rd Feb if 7 wants to put the last day of the WAshes test on the main channel.

A season of surprises and stars

Australian Idol premieres Sunday, 2 February

Who will be the next Australian Idol? The international star-making sensation returns to Seven and 7plus for a third massive season at 7.00pm on Sunday, 2 February.

Australian Idol OG and pop legend Marcia Hines, TV WEEK Logie Awards winner and acclaimed recording and touring artist Amy Shark, and radio king Kyle Sandilands return to the Idol judging desk to unearth Australia’s next Idol.

Set to be the toughest and most surprising season yet, the judges are looking for the ultimate performer, with only room for the best of the best: a singer with the sound, style and star quality to win the heart of the nation.

Marcia said: “Australian Idol is like a box of chocolates. You just never know what you’re going to get.”

Amy added: “I don’t think we’ve ever had this many surprises.”

During the auditions, contestants will be on the hunt for a Golden Ticket to progress to the next round. With just 30 Golden Tickets available, only the most talented performers will claim a coveted spot.

The Top 30 artists must survive a gruelling week of challenges set by the judges to secure a place in the Top 21, where the artists will undergo a transformation and perform again as the judges continue to narrow the field to the competition’s Top 12 artists. The Top 12 will feature in the live performance round of the competition, with viewers voting to decide who will be crowned the next Australian Idol.

A global success since 2001, the Idol franchise has launched the careers of many multi-award-winning artists, including Aussies Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Matt Corby, Ricki-Lee, Anthony Callea, Stan Walker, Casey Donovan and Courtney Act.

International music icons Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert also launched their brilliant careers on the Idol stage.

Australian Idol is hosted by multi-platinum-selling, ARIA Award-nominated singer-songwriter Ricki-Lee – who was discovered on Australian Idol in 2004 – and internationally renowned entertainment presenter and former E! host Scott Tweedie.

2nd Feb, 7 will be hoping that either Aus vs SL or Aus vs Eng test matches don’t go to their last day or otherwise 1 match will be on SD & they will get hate for it

In a wide ranging interview with Lisa Mayoh in today’s Sunday Telegraph, Kyle commented about the auditions of this season of Idol.

“There wasn’t as many goons as I would like – you know, the real hilarious ones – but I think social media has ruined that for everyone, because everyone’s telling them on social media ‘You’re shit’ before I get a chance to tell them, But there’s still some that argue back, and there’s a lot of fun,” he says.

“And this year, there’s a bit more variety. Last year is a little bit country, just the way the cookie crumbled, but there’s more variety of everything, which is really good.

“I sort of forced someone on top of Marsha and Amy, a bit behind their back, but that’s all right.

“This one guy came in – he was a bit electro, hip hoppy, but he made all his own beats, and he used machinery, and sound effects and stuff – and Marcia said no because she’s a singer, and Amy’s like ‘No’, because he didn’t play guitar, and she’s a bit like that – if you don’t play guitar and listen to Triple J, then you’re not real,” he laughs.

“And then he left and we took a break about 20 minutes later and I went and found the guy and said, ‘Nah, we’re just going to bring you back’ and I just gave him a back door pass straight to the next round.”

That’s what he’s looking for – something new.

Er, that’s now quite how you spell her name
