Clearly I’m not talking about the old days of big brother
If Kyle is moaning about filming auditions then he really shouldn’t have accepted the job. Auditions though being filmed months in advance is nothing new at all - when done properly the entire production process from the first casting call through to the live final could easily take the best part of a year.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if having made a big deal about it being live last year (then only the results show being live) that Seven backtracked on that and pre-recorded the lot next year. Heck, you could even keep the contestants to film performances for every week of “live” shows and just cut their performances based on a public vote each week if you really wanted to.
If they do have live shows though worth remembering Easter is early next year so possibly they’ve opted to push the entire series, or the live portion at least, to after Easter - and perhaps moving it out of the way of MAFS could be seen as a show of faith, though any replacement would be a lamb to the slaughter really.
Kyle announced today that all auditions are being held in Sydney this year and contestants from around the country will be flown in.
He didn’t want to travel the country again he said.
Lazy arse.
Baffles me why producers would agree to that. He’s not that big a pull and the “talent” here is the contestants, not the judges.
Of course though it’s probably just a cost cutting measure and Kyle is dressing it up as being done for him.
I’m honestly thinking it’ll be completely prerecorded this season.
Why go to all the who ha like this year for such poor ratings?
Probably a production budget issue, with a classic Kyle spin.
They could probably do LIVE shows easier with an all Aussie judging panel.
Is it really going to be that much cheaper? It just makes it harder for people in regional areas to be acknowledged. Having only 3 judges also a step back.
It would be SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than trucking or flying whole sets, equipment cast and crew across the country I imagine. Just singers and some family on a JetStar flight.
Be intrigued how this goes and what changes they will make to the show eg live shows etc.
This is also from the network who have butchered Big Brother, so not surprising they’re going cheap.
Far cry from their original outings on 10.
Have you not seen any of the promotion for Idol or The Voice in recent years?
The judges are the be all and end all of both shows nowadays.
Kyle is not a big pull for barely anyone in 2023. Heck he wasn’t even back in his hey day
The way the auditions were edited last year the location of the auditions didn’t really make a big difference. Back in the day they had an episode per location but last year it was chopped up with each episode showing auditions across various locations. So I can see why it makes sense for them to have one set up to record across multiple days - it would save a lot of costs and logistics.
I still think they will keep the live aspect. It goes back to Kyle’s comments that they are filming the auditions a long time in advanced. There are also rumors (as mentioned in the below article) that Adam Lambert might join the panel in the live phase. Having that viewer vote and interaction is also the thing that differentiates it from The Voice.

They should put the judges on the plane and hold the auditions during the flight. Anyone who gets a no is given a parachute and shown the door.
Aus-Plane-ian Idol
According to Ricki-Lee’s socials, the Sydney auditions took place at the SCG, after the judges made a grand entrance at Allianz Stadium next door.
2024 Upfronts
Twenty years after Guy Sebastian pipped Shannon Noll to become Australia’s first Idol, the international star-making sensation returns to Seven for a second big season. Radio king Kyle Sandilands and TV WEEK Logie Award winner and acclaimed singer Amy Shark will be joined by a new judge: Australian Idol OG and pop legend Marcia Hines. The trio will traverse the country to find the next Guy, Casey or Royston. Hosts Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie are back to help create an Idol dream. Australian Idol is produced by Eureka Productions for the Seven Network.
Royston? Ha! Haven’t seen the guy since finale night. Definitely not Idol alumni.
I agree. No idea what management see in him. Surely better options out there that won’t attract his, I assume excessive fee.
