Australian Idol

Hasn’t there been harsh comments in the auditions, top 50 & even yesterday. I don’t think they have been positive all the time

Harry and Kyle have been honest. Last night and Tonight included. The girls are just fluff.

All of the contestants have not been great IMO. They just don’t sound good compared to other shows.

That Harry contestant definitely had tickets on himself and appeared to be running Harry Connick up the wrong way. He was just waaay too confident.

And didn’t perform well at all. I have a feeling though, much like Ben last night, he will get through.

I don’t see any stars here. And isn’t that the point? I don’t see anyone that I can imagine to be on Spotify or commercial radio. Maybe two or three people in a niche kind of role but as a whole this is terrible. I think I’m done after this episode. Back to streaming.

Judges double-down on Touchdowns

Kyle and Meghan fast-track performers to the Top 12

The competition heated up as eight more of the Australian Idol Top 24 took their skills to a live audience to vie for a place in the Top 12 tonight on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Twenty-five-year-old Margaret River surfer Sash Seabourne was the first to perform, taking to the stage with an electric performance of Kings of Leon’s Sex on Fire. The judges were impressed he was able to show another side to his performance, but Kyle questioned whether it was enough to make the Top 12.

Melbourne DJ, Maya Weiss, delivered an enthralling rendition of Addicted to You by Avicii and thoroughly impressed Kyle, who rewarded her with a Touchdown and a fast pass to the Top 12.

Meghan’s Northern Territory artist, Naomi Gipey, gave an intimate interpretation of Leona Lewis’ Bleeding Love but struggled to impress the judging panel. Nineteen-year-old Cooper Turnbull’s bold song choice of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen proved divisive, with Amy and Meghan deeming it “effortlessly awesome.” At the same time, Kyle and Harry wanted to see more from the young performer.

Fifteen-year-old student Phoebe Stewart channelled fellow redhead Florence + The Machine with a powerful delivery of You’ve Got The Love. Meghan was overwhelmed and left speechless by Phoebe’s performance but managed to pull it together to award her with a Touchdown.

Harry Hayden from Melbourne stripped back Take Me To Church by Hozier in what the judges described as his best performance yet. Country performer Damien Agius did Queensland proud with his emotive delivery of Lonestar’sAmazed.

Finally, 28-year-old wedding singer Kristie Baillie wowed the live audience with the Aretha Franklin’s smash hit Respect.

With two Touchdowns already awarded, the remaining six performers were left to compete for the two remaining places in next week’s live shows. After deliberating, the judges put Sash and Harry through to join Maya and Phoebe in the Top 12.

Tomorrow night on Australian Idol: The final four spots in the Top 12 will be filled as eight contestants battle it out for a chance to compete on live television for the Idol crown.

I was there in the audience and it sounded much better IRL. My favourite act (who could probably make it post-show) is on tomorrow night. Calling it now, Josh Hannan for the win!

I was more disappointed with Ricki Lee’s unnecessary comment ‘don’t worry old mate isn’t coming back’ (or something like that)

Why on earth would he be disappointed?

Because it was his catchphrase which he used for the performances he thought were outstanding. It’s like it has been misappropriated just to have a nostalgic connection to the past.

Meghan seemed to be out of words in tonight’s episode. Apart from delivering that touchdown, she squealed a lot and said “you are cute” many times. The only objective comments she made was after Kristie’s performance.

Speaking of Kristie, a video shown before her performance showed her wedding with partner Mairi. According to Kristie’s Instagram, the wedding took place on October 29 last year, just a couple of days after the top 50 round concluded in Sydney.

So what if Harry gets booed from the audience for being honest ? That’s why he’s a great judge.Kyle was also being honest with his comments, there has to be one or more judge who tells the truth ,they can’t always be nice and tell a contestant they had a great performance when they didn’t,wasn’t singing in tune, etc.I don’t like Meghan Trainor she grates on my nerves ,they should have kept Marcia on the judging panel .Amy is ok so far.

Most of the singers are hopeless. The country singer and pheobe were the best i didnt see the dj girl with frizzy hair. Kyle sandilands, harry connick amy shark is just holding up but get rid pf meghan trainor shes just repeating herself just stick to singing songs meghan. I hope australian idol 2023 gets better but it seems like its fading of the stage.

Guys, seriously, the judges only care about the paycheck (7 figures?) Producers are making the calls who is going and so on. Judges in 2023 are just props. 2000 was the organic real stuff.

That Jasey guy is so bad yet the judges keep fawning over him. No credibility whatsoever.
