ARN Regional (formerly Grant Broadcasters)

Is it better now than it was before?

In my experience, 91.7 gets into Kiama okay, but not brilliant.

The Saddleback Range does it no favours of course.

It’s better closer to the coast and up high, especially towards the blowhole.

It’s worse along the main strip of shops and restaurants but still better than before.

What did they change at 2ST?

Not sure, but 91.7 can definitely be heard in Kiama , loud and clear in some places and patchy in others.

The Hot20 is now the iHeartRadio Countdown with Mikey.

Not sure how you can call yourself a Hot 20 countdown and play Footloose by Kenny Loggins.

Belongs in a Cold 20 countdown (I wish Triple M would bring those back!).

Wish they kept The Random 30 Countdown.

What local content exists on 95.3? (the 2nd Queenstown licence, which I believe is a relay of KIX Country).

I know they only have to do 30 minutes a day, do they do local weather inserts or anything else?

Just local weather as I understand it. The country music format exempts them from the 30 minutes of local content - the same loophole that the various commercial racing station relays (3BT, 4FC) use.

At one stage I was on the coast they had Beau from Hobart piped in on KIX

I don’t agree with that loophole - if they aren’t prepared to make some effort with local content on a commercial station, they should move to narrowcast frequency and let a proper commercial operator eg Gold have a go.

The frequency is really only in use because they knew they could use the Kix format, if they were going to have to do local content they’d probably have left it deactivated on AM.

I don’t get not just having Sea FM piped in, but the market is so tiny I think they either get that extra music station or the frequency goes unused, I’m amazed they had the budget for paint honestly.

I don’t either, other than that the Burnie and Devonport Sea FM content must be too “localised” to rework it to make it more generic or suitable for the West Coast.

Completely. 4FC should not be allowed to not provide local content. A new commercial licence should be issued or TAB moved to narrowcast.

I’ve just noticed that ARN take Morning Glory with Matty Johns from SEN but replay it on a Saturday, is it just a highlights version or the full show, seemed very strange to me.

Going by Power 100 web site, they have changed their position to Better Music & More Of It. The music will basically stay the same.
