ARN Regional (formerly Grant Broadcasters)

Both logs absolutely woeful. Amy Shark on 3BA and Icehouse on Power? Mind-boggling.

Sounds like the gap between them is significantly narrowing though, 3BA sounding newer, Power getting older - which isn’t ideal in a two station market. Half the time I think you couldn’t tell which one you were listening to.

That’s why I’m a fan of the approach that Hit/MMM take in regional areas - having an AC and a Rock station that are clearly distinguished from each other, with obvious target audiences. Those two logs are a directionless muddle.

I agree. Having said that, the adult stations that take a ‘classic hits’ log, such as Zinc, 2ST & 2EC, among a number of others, are very distinct from the CHR/Hot AC stations.

Off-Topic, Hit 104.7 & Mix 106.3 in Canberra are distinctive enough from one another as well, especially since the former now takes the same log as the metro Hit stations (exc 2Day).

so by the looks of the logs 3ba is still playing modern but power is playing the more uptodate music?

thats geting more more confusing. i really do hope power fm here in ballat isnt allienating there listern to much. this is why i cant wait for the next servey to come out and grant would never sell 3ba or power fm to sca sadly only because i think its heritage and 3 ba is the 1or 2nd station the camerons brought

How well does Gold Central Victoria (1071 AM) get into Ballarat?

Was up in Bendigo during the week and noticed the afternoons jock was giving out temperatures for Sebastopol (among other towns). I imagine Grants opt not to put 3BA onto the classic hits log to avoid duplicating the Gold CV format, but the overlap with the network’s AC and Hot AC/CHR logs means they miss an opportunity to essentially run three distinct formats into a market.

Perhaps the solution is to develop a Smooth-style soft AC format for 3BA (or Gold, but not both) and Bay 93.9? (Or, dare I say, program music locally? Anyone? Anyone?)

Power FM sounds very dated compared to Krock and their 80s logo doesn’t help

Like I said we will see what happens when the regional radio survey for Ballarat comes out. and see if there’s any decrease or increase in the listener survey for either 3ba or power FM, I think any decrease will see change.also i like said previously will all these changes from power fm i do hope there not alienating there listen base

I don’t think there’s enough regularity to the regional surveys in smaller markets to draw much of a conclusion about anything - it’ll be 4 years between surveys for Ballarat - you just won’t be able to say that’s down to the change in music - it could be 100 different factors.

Maybe if Triple J shoots up that could mean something - but the surveys are so spaced that you almost can’t draw a conclusion between the changes from survey to survey.

i thought ballarat was due this year since it was 2017 since the last one. has it been posponed till next year now?

What a mess :flushed:

I got told by a mate in Darwin on the weekend how much of a mess Hot100 and Mix are, but the above would take the cake.

Actually, the music logs used on Hot100 & Mix in Darwin are actually the same as the ones used above in Ballarat, so it’s not surprising that it’s also a mess there.

What has anyone done to deserve this…

Have been in Northern Tas recently and Chilli is no longer the home of the hottest hits from what I heard!

The difference between Chilli and LAFM is not clearly defined anymore.

The irony I found is LAFM has a local drive show where us in Hobart are forced (well not really forced) to consume Nova content.

Seams like a new logo for Power FM in SA.
