ARN Regional (formerly Grant Broadcasters)

Don’t give them that idea. For example, 94.5 in Muswellbrook only covers Muswellbrook itself, not Singleton nor Scone or Aberdeen in either direction.

I forgot to mention that I doubt this will be entirely live. Local sports pieces would have to be pre-recorded, as most are volunteers and would be either actually on the ground preparing for the day’s action, or at work, as most would still have jobs. And heaven help them if weather causes cancellations.

As it stands, this will not work, I’m sorry to say. They are better off sticking to a Saturday sports show in the morning, and taking the NRL and AFL from SEN and Nine in the arvo.

Does SEN have exclusive rights in regional areas or could Grant take the 2GB call on Saturday night or Sunday. Their 50% owned but Capital operated 2CC Canberra takes the 2GB call, unless that is changing.

I’m guessing they’re not going to be taking any NRL games judging by that RadioInfo article. I suspect it’s cheaper for them to just go automated music on Friday-Sunday nights if SEN and Nine are raising their prices. As for Canberra - depends who is in charge of the JV?

Again, if that is the case, this will not turn out well. While personally I do prefer ABC’s coverage, there are people who prefer the commercial coverage. The intent is admirable, but in reality, this could turn out badly. If I were back home in the Upper Hunter, sadly 2NM would not be listened to, given NRL coverage was the only thing they have going for them.

Ahh never takes long for Grant to do something stupid. I’m all for local sport to get more coverage, doesn’t sound like any local games will get calls anyway.
It’s a great idea in theory but they’ve done it completely wrong, they should do a local sports show in the morning into the network coverage and the call of the NRL/AFL games, there’ll be a lot of listeners tuning out to the 2GB app if they are listening fir the CCT.
This will be lucky to last a few weeks, I simply do not understand why they went down this path.

Following Ben Cullen’s decision to pursue business opportunities outside the Australian radio industry, Grant Broadcasters Sunshine Coast has been given the opportunity to bring former B105 Music Director and Announcer Jake Powell into the family.

His first day with Grant Broadcasters Sunshine Coast (Hot 91 & Zinc) will be on Monday 16th November.

What role? As MD for the 2 stations? Or just as an announcer?

Radioinfo didn’t mention what role/s Jake Powell will be doing, whereas Radio Today mentions that he would be Assistant Music Director for the 2 stations, as well as doing weekdays from 10:30am to 3pm on Hot 91, which were Ben Cullen’s previous roles before he left.

2ST’s Huskisson translator was struck by lightning yesterday.

I was down in the Shoalhaven yesterday & did wonder why I couldn’t get anything on 91.7 that afternoon in areas where I normally could get it well. It was there as normal when I went down there in the morning.

The translator is due to be replaced by a higher-powered service from Cambewarra Mountain to be broadcast on the same frequency, which will also replace the 999AM service.

Still on 2ST & Power FM:

Appears there are some mass resignations/host changes happening at Grant in Darwin.

Hot 100 breakfast team wasn’t on-air this morning and a veteran Darwin radio host resigned from Mix on Saturday. Greg used to be at ABC for many years so wouldn’t be surprised if there is a potential shift occurring.

The Cameron’s continue to cut costs on music scheduling at Hot 91 and Hot Tomato.

No more effort for Hot 91’s Saturday night program, ‘Club Hot’ which consisted of party friendly dance and urban remixes.

Now runs the same log as Hot Tomato. ‘Flashback Saturday night’

Weekday or weekend music also seems to be same as Hot Tomato.

What a shame.

In the mid 90’s, Mix Sunshine Coast sadly began similar cost cutting of the same log at the same time as Gold FM Gold Coast.

Quarter of a century on and after fifteen years of variety and stiff competition, their competitors are doing the same.

The music scheduling for Hot Tomato and Hot 91, where does it originate? Who is doing it?

When will the Camerons realise that stations are successful when music is tailored to what works best in a market? What works best for the audience and on what competition is in the market.

Spotify and streaming out of market radio is on the increase. Why compromise for a ‘local’ station that isn’t as relevant as it should be when you can find exactly what you need online?

The music scheduling on Grant all comes from the same place I believe.

Hot 100 Darwin’s music schedule is identical to K-Rock in Geelong and Star FM etc as they are similar stations. If a certain song plays at 2:30pm on K-Rock, it plays at the same time locally on Hot 100 I’ve noticed.

Crows Nest, where Grant has their head office?

Yes, where from and by who?

All scheduled from the Sunshine Coast now for the CHR/Hot AC stations. Not sure who is MD, although it appears Jake Powell ex-B105 is now AMD for both Hot and Zinc as announced 9 November (link).
