The ARIA Awards will premiere live only on Stan, followed by a special presentation on Channel 9 with performances and moments available on-demand on the @ARIA.Offical YouTube channel.
Maybe it means less hours on Nine (say 2 hours down to 90 minutes)?
The ceremony will again be produced by Roving Enterprises.
That’s crazy. If 9 don’t want them live on the main channel give the awards to someone else.
The problem is the start time for the ARIAs can be as early a 5pm. So a repackaged 7.30pm cut down version isn’t too bad. Where Nine has messed things up in the past is the editing of the FTA program that last year especially was really poor.
MISSY HIGGINS INDUCTED INTO ARIA HALL OF FAME
2024 marks the 20th anniversary of The Sound of White
The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) is thrilled to reveal Melbourne singer-songwriter Missy Higgins will be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame during the 2024 ARIA Awards in partnership with YouTube on Wednesday, 20 November.
The esteemed accolade will be awarded to the nine-time ARIA Award winner at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, on Gadigal land, celebrating Missy’s legendary career and major influence on Australian music.
Since releasing her debut album The Sound of White in 2004 – a 12-time platinum triumph which spent a total of seven weeks at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart – Missy has gone on to become one of the highest selling singer-songwriters of our era, creating some of Australia’s most loved and recognised songs.
The quiet determination with which she has always marched to her own beat has seen her cited as a formative influence by two generations of Australian singer songwriters, from Kate Miller-Heidke, Clare Bowditch and Amy Shark to Angie McMahon, Gordi and Gretta Ray.
Missy’s follow up album, 2007’s On A Clear Night, was equally adored by the nation. Winning another ARIA Award and shooting straight to the number one spot on the ARIA Albums Chart, 2012’s The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle did the same. Oz (2014) and Solastalgia (2018) both made it into the top three of the Albums Chart, as did Missy’s 2022 mini-album of songs from ABC TV’s acclaimed series Total Control. Across the past two decades, all these releases have generated an extraordinary 25 ARIA Award nominations.
Missy’s first full length release in six years, The Second Act, will land on 6 September this year off the back of her biggest Australian tour in nearly 20 years. Across 40 sold-out dates to over 80,000 people, Missy has simultaneously celebrated The Sound Of White’s anniversary and previewed new songs from The Second Act in a unique live show that has drawn unanimous rave reviews.
Influenced by a vast range of genres growing up, from R&B and soul to alternative rock, pop, jazz and more; Missy’s career began when her older sister Nicola famously entered her in Triple J’s Unearthed without Missy’s knowledge. The song was All For Believing: originally only written for a school music assignment. It went on to win the competition and kick-started this singular career.
ARIA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said: “Australia has seen Missy Higgins’ music career go from strength to strength, including nine ARIA Awards, several number one albums, and multiple sell-out national tours. The ARIA Hall of Fame is all about celebrating legendary music talent who leave a unique mark, inspiring not only the industry but Australia and the world. Missy is the absolute epitome of this. We couldn’t be happier to be welcoming one of Australia’s most loved and admired artists, Missy Higgins, into the ARIA Hall of Fame.”
Missy said: “I feel very honoured and grateful. So many artists I love and admire are in the ARIA Hall Of Fame so it feels a bit surreal to be joining them. This year has already been really special, now this is going to make it even more memorable.”
Missy’s induction into the ARIA Hall Of Fame will take place during the 2024 ARIA Awards, where she will join the ranks of Australia’s most revered musical legends and artists.
The ARIA Awards will broadcast from Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion live on Wednesday, 20 November from 5.00pm AEDT, only on Stan. The live stream will be followed by a special presentation on Channel 9 with performances and moments also available on the @ARIA.official YouTube channel.
- Live from 1.30pm AEDT: Red Carpet on @ARIA.official YouTube channel
- Live from 5.00pm AEDT: The 2024 ARIA Awards in full, only on Stan. The full show will also be available on demand on Stan following the official live stream.
- A 2024 ARIA Awards special presentation on Channel 9 and streamed outside of Australia on YouTube
More announcements for the 2024 ARIA Awards in partnership with YouTube are coming very soon.
ARIA Awards is supported proudly by the NSW Government through its tourism and events agency, Destination NSW.
“Hard to believe, but 2026 will be the 40th anniversary of the ARIA Awards,” Herd said. “To celebrate that milestone, in 2026, we will be holding a separate event to induct a number of people into the ARIA Hall of Fame at once.
“It’s something we have had in the pipeline for some time now and a decision we made with the Board to ensure industry recognition of the incredible contributions many artists have made to the Australian music landscape.”
More details will be announced “next year,” with Herd adding that ARIA is “proud and unapologetic” about giving inductees the opportunity to grow new fanbases and expand their careers further.
