Great log, plenty of roaches and toads alike in that.

Nice to see you logged the rarely heard Bonalbo ABCs. I’m surprised both have RDS, though they might be off air relays from Mount Nardi?

2NIM Nimbin is also rarely logged. Nice to see their smoke signals are still working

Very interesting mix of stations from NSW and QLD. I suppose influenced by a good location at the lookout.

A bit of a good night on the TEF on the AM Band after seeing NSW lift that shield.

The usual China on 765 (under 5CC), 783 and 909.

1287 under Newstalk ZB was JOHR Sapporo with a Japanese female voice who turns out to be Nako Yabuki who used to be part of the Jpop group HKT48 until she left in 2023 in order to host the Wednesday edition of the Recommendation show that is networked across Japan.

Although the other day under Glen Innes and Tauranga on 819 was some weak music. Knowing the style, I assume it would be KCBS Pyongyang, North Korea

The Dear Leader’s music leader.

Well done on those. 1287 Sapporo is regularly logged in North America but I don’t think I’ve read a report from SE Australia. If only we could steal a bit of Sapporo’s snow as well as its radio signals!

Worth noting that KCBS can usually be heard also on 3250khz AM and on 3205khz DRM on HF, though I don’t know if a portable can receive it as both can be rather weak. 3250 at least would be a good reference point for picking it out on MW underneath other stations.

Went down to Candelo and back today.

On the way back up Mount Darragh, I noted 3MGB Genoa (96.9) back on air. This was off air/malfunctioning for quite some time. Towamba 88.0 still going as well which is good to see.

2BRW is a permanent signal in parts of Toothdale and Wolumla also; wanted to go down on a westerly day in winter to confirm this. With lots of snow on the Snowies and a balmy 18.5C at Bega today, tropo was as low as it’s going to get.

When I first heard about radio dx I thought it was so weird, but it’s actually a good thing to have as a hobby or passion. The travelling idea and learning about technology, just to capture radio stations. It’s better than most people waste time on.

Precisely. Whenever someone queries my passion for radio and DXing, I retort that at least I’m not drinking, smoking or gambling away my time.

And it’s a comparatively cheap hobby too, compared to say doing up old cars, which can cost thousands.

Getting Adelaide including lower power 3D radio 93.7 tonight.

Big phat high replacing the westerlies. This could be a theme of the non winter we’re having in the SE. I see Melbourne is around 17 all week; Bungendore will be around 15 all week and Adelaide as high as 19.

Crazy tropo this morning, can hear Port Pirie fms including 105.1 TRAX and 103.5 JJJ in Buxton, 840kms or so!

(recording of jjj over 3MBS on the Buxton server)

Triple M Adelaide on the Buxton server

It’s also the reason why the Adelaide FMs are going so far. For me they are stronger than the local commercials.

Bendigo into Mildura now, Hit 91.9 receiving partial RDS decode indoors on the portable, via multipath. ABCs are also there, though weaker than the commercials.

5AU 97.9 coming in at midday now in Buxton,

(Weak but you can hear the ID here, and matching current song played)

Receiving ABCs from Bethungra / South West Slopes now with RDS, including 90.7 Triple J over the top of Hot FM Wentworth.

Did some Dab+ Dxing on a snow chase out on the Oberon Plateau early Sunday morning, did not focus on Fm as the DAB+ out performs FM on the GWM Haval H6.

Due to Victoria Pass being shut I travelled along the Bells Line. DAB+ was solid from Sydney until just west of Kurrajong Heights where the road cuts between the hills just east of the Bowling club. Past this point it was solid until Mt Wilson with some dropouts on the western side of Mt Tomah.

It was then patchy to Clarence and no reception of course in Lithgow. Now here is where I got some unexpected reception.

Great Western Highway at Hartley just east of Lithgow.
Sydney fm is strong here and there is a small patch of Sydney DAB+ but you loose it when going around the hill into Lithgow.

Hampden, on the eastern side of the escarpment with LOS to the east, pretty consistent reception up to around the pub.

Oberon no reception

Shooters Hill Cemetery, a small patch of Sydney DAB+ reception on the access road into the cemetery. I am sure at the summit of Shooters Hill reception would have been more stable but the road was covered in snow, and my car is not AWD so was not going to attempt it.

Mt Trickett, this is where I got the strongest and most consistent Sydney DAB+ this is helped by an elevation of over 1300m and excellent LOS to the east over the Blue Mountains.

I did try for Canberra DAB+ on the southern facing hills without luck. I would think south of Shooters Hill towards Crookwell would be a better chance.

I thought that was you on the Ski Forum. Pretty pathetic snowfall for Shooters but looks like that will be the new norm.

Yeah, if you go around to the Gurnang State Forest (south of Shooters Hill Road on the Goulburn Rd), you get Braidwood FM quite well. This is the northernmost spot of permanent reception that I’ve found.*** I’ve never tried Canberra DAB but I daresay it would be possible, if not there then just before you drop down to the Abercrombie Gorge.

I have had Sydney DAB decode in Oberon- whilst snow was falling as well. It was at the toilet block on the southeast end of town, towards Edith/Oberon Dam.

***I got 2BRW extremely weakly via As from Hassans Walls, Lithgow in a null of 2RSR. But only fluttered up for about 10-15 seconds; luckily we were playing sponsorship ads that I instantly recognised.
