Wow, that’s a great get at about 750 km without a water path !!

Though the Hay Plains act like an inland sea whenever there’s tropo!

Well done getting this, I always end up with 5SBS Adelaide instead (it’s basically in permanently on my old TV aerial setup). You may have also had Triple J on 102.3, providing KIIS wasn’t cutting in as usual

Victoria and South Australia FM received in Bunbury 5am this morning. Furthest distance 95.1 Latrobe valley, 2800km. No RDS on 95.1 it seamed but many other RDS stations received.

Wow well done!!! Is this 5am WA time? I checked at around 8am Vic time and didn’t get any WA (although other western stuff was strong)

Yes, 5am WA time. Still dark outside. Same at home, strong Albany and Esperance. Weak Hamilton and SAFM 107.1. I had to head out to my nearby lookout to get these stations.

With a quick trip across to Adelaide, I had another go at AM DX tonight, by far the most widespread, with some WA stations audible as well. The lowest powered catch was 1359 from Mildura, the RSN relay. All are listed with the call signs from the ACMA book.

Interesting how strong Melbourne gets into Adelaide.

Congrats on the long haul Victorian tropo. It seems March is the best month for these Bight paths so I might have to plan another visit to Cape Bridgewater at this time of year. I had success in March 2016 with tropo almost every day, though the tropo only went as far as Port Lincoln and Hobart.

By contrast, this January was very ho-hum. A pity as January is when I want to escape the heat up here (March is usually when it starts to get better).

Very quiet morning In Ouyen didn’t get anything like other active mornings but i did get 106.3 5SBSFM from Adelaide.

What stations do you regularly get in Ouyen on a quiet morning like today?

I’m guessing the Mildura ABCs/commercials, Loxton ABCs, Swan Hill ABCs, Flow FM Speed and Donald/Birchip?, the local 90.7 3HOT relay, 88.3 ABC RN at Hopetoun ??? Anything else?

If it’s a quiet morning mainly local stations from Mildura, but reception can still be bad ABC is better with all stations being higher power & I might get Murray Valley, Renmark was very faint this morning a couple of mornings ago I was getting Deniliquin, Murrumbidgee, Upper Murray, Albury & Wangaratta.

Likewise, up the road in Mildura it was quite a busy morning, with the vast majority also favoring South Australia. For the first time, all Crafers / Mount Lofty FMs were received and noted, as were all three 5MUs and two out of three Power FMs (Mount Barker is blocked by local ABC News Radio). Today’s first time catches were Magic 89.9 Port Lincoln (kudos to @AustraliaRadio232 who received it first), Happy FM 90.1, 5MU and Power FM Victor Harbour respectively, and 107.9 Life FM Adelaide. All were caught on the wideband TV aerial at NNODE 2.

As a sidenote, I’m considering consolidating both servers to one site, as the noise floor on my first setup has not improved. The 3 element yagi set up in vertical polarisation would come in handy for some other hard to receive stations, and provide some further tropo help.

At Cape Bridgewater I found that 5MU (97.1) and Power FM (99.7) Victor Harbor came in stronger than the Adelaide FMs. The direct water path trumps the higher ERP of Mount Lofty.

The laconic, languid highs of March produce this southern tropo, and it’s lasting longer inland due to the slightly less intense heat and longer evenings.
