Some good tropo about again tonight. Pretty coastal though.
Favouring the south, North Coast only average.
Edit: 2UUU heard on 92.3 weakly, probably now due to their fairly recent power increase.

Well that explains how I am getting it permanently at my location now although mostly at a weak level. Just Newcastle/Central Coast at my location tonight with a weak Middle Brother as well.
I wonder when that actual works upgrade occurred? ![]()
No accessible 2UUU Facebook at present either that might have provided some info.
Nothing on their website about it either.
I think it was sometime in the last 12 months though.
Thank you. ![]()
Go for it, if itās not a bother? The extra RDS info would or could help the dxers & RDS PI code assigners etc.
Firstly what make of SDR do you have?
Knowing that info we could point you in the right direction.
Having a remotely accessible FM broadcast band SDR in your part of the continent would be an awesome resource for DX monitoring.
Iām also curious to know (if you know?) if 106.7 HOT FM has RDS on its 90.7 FM relays in Ouyen, Robinvale & Wentworthville? Sorry for all the questions. With most of us located in the cities itās great to hear & learn about the radio scene out in the more remote regions of the country. And welcome to Media Spy from me too. ![]()
Iām getting hit106.9 Newcastle again just now via TVCL2, though the station name is not displaying on the RDS.
EDIT: The RDS is displaying Vox FM Wollongong, even though Iām receiving hit106.9 Newcastle.
Yup, that is what the radio sounds like up on the roof of my place. Cheers all for dropping over and having a listen.
@cmoore (Perth TEF server owner) updated my radio firmware for me and has sent me his plugins folder to install. First attempt at plugins was unsuccessful, Iāll have some spare time to play after the weekend. That will enable logos, station description and a recorder.
The DX scene has been pretty bland recently here on the West Coast. Yesterday was one of the first days that really felt like spring. Mr Hepburn is promising a good weekend though. Geraldton has been MIA mostly this season. 98.1 did reach RDS level last Saturday evening. Lancelin 102.3 and 103.9 reached weak to fair levels last night. 250km@150watts during a DX drought is a win!
Notice you get the Northam (Mawson) ABCs quite well too, especially 99.7. Thatās why I checked 94.9 for signs of Gero.
94.9 Gero finally arrived at midnight, weak to fair. Gone now.
Mawson and Mt Barker where both good overnight. Mt Barker was clear on 94.5 92.9 and 96.9 over the top of Perth.
Probably because it got RDS before on 106.9 from Vox and if the frequency isnāt changed, it stays there until another RDS signal is detected. Try just toggling the frequency up and down and it should reset the RDS display.
Edit: I realise now you probably mean the station details box in the bottom right and the station logo rather than the RDS PS display. In which case, since that frequency is usually occupied by Vox FM and RDS for it doesnāt usually come in on TVCL2, Iāve just manually put in the station details for 106.9 to be Vox. If RDS is detected from Hit, itāll update the station details based on the RDS. But if thereās no RDS, itāll show what I entered manually (i.e. Vox).
I was thinking about setting up a webserver from my house (in Cheltenham Melbourne). I already have a TEF6686 and a computer I can use but I need a good antenna. What antenna would be the best to use for a webserver like this? (preferably something under $150)
This is the one I bought for my TVCL2 TEF server:
If you can try setting up a few antennas (in your price range), you might just end up pulling in stations from not just Melbourne, but also Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Shepparton, maybe even Warragul and the Latrobe Valley. Alas, if any other signals come in from areas outside of the mentioned here, they may be lucky catches, thanks to tropo that can happen at times, mostly during the Summer period. With all this said, you could run 2 webservers if your equipment allows for it. I would also like the server(s) to be in 320kbps crisp clear Stereo as well please, as 320kbps is the highest quality for audio. Thanks very much.
You could also find a long-range antenna that allows for signals to come in from all directions of Victoria, from the South to the North, East to the West. TVCL1 aims for signals coming from the South, and TVCL2 aims for signals coming from all other directions.
Thanks for the response. Setting up two antennas like the other melbourne webserver seems like a good idea. I was thinking one antenna could be vertical (either a 3 element yagi or a dipole) and one could be horizontal (3 or 4 element yagi). I have decent internet so i think 320kbps would be possible also.
All good, thereās certainly not many of us from this part of the world ![]()
The SDR I use is just an RTLSDRBlog V3 USB dongle. While it does OK for FM, its absolutely useless for MW/SW unfortunately, even with a good loop antenna its as deaf as a fence post. Best Iāve gotten out of it on MW is RIVER 1467, and even that was weak despite the transmitter being less than 5km from my place. FM can also get lots of harmonics and overload, locally its always Triple J appearing on a few extra frequencies than its supposed toā¦
All of this talk about the TEF radios are tempting me to pick one up. By the sounds of it, it should do miles better than the old SDR dongle.
Also coming in on the perth webserver right now much weaker.
While not appearing on the RDS, hit102.3 Esperance is also coming in on the Bunbury tuner. Very intense tropo today in Bunbury, going to have to get some captures of these.
UPDATE: The Triple M Geraldton signal is getting stronger, now at 37.0 dBf, up from 34.1 dBf.
FURTHER UPDATE: Receiving a hit Western Australia repeater on 104.7 FM from Wongan Hills on the Bunbury tuner, and more Triple M full-power stations and repeaters.
Can confirm at Woodman Point between Freo and Rockingham I have most Geraldtons, Hit Narrogin, Hit Jurien Bay coming in strong - picked a good day to come to the beach!
Or most likely 102.3 6FMS Lancelin
Most likely 104.7 6SAT Jurien Bay
