Interesting & relaxing watching others quickly scan around on the hot tropo frequencies on the Sydney TEF webserver doing all the hard work ![]()
Noting a slight lift inland now with 105.5 2ABCFM & 106.3 2PNN Central Western Slopes in.
Yes, stronger coastal tropo, but inland is weaker than last Thursday night.
Had Coffs ABCs in stereo plus a weak 106.3 MMM, and at the other end 103.9, 105.5 and 107.1 Eden all with partial RDS. 104.7 2SEA had too much 2BOBing from Taree to see any RDS.
Sydney region stronger tonight, Vintage 88.7 witb RDS easily nulled in from 2MWM. Connect over Port Stephens FM.
Weak 89.5 Goulburn heard, most Canberra stations still there weak to fair but no RDS anywhere.
Weak Batemans Bay commercials 104.3, 105.9 heard, 107.5 clearer no RDS.
Orange ABCs also weak, only NW Slopes ABC was 96.7, also heard 93.9 RN Tamworth and 106.3 2PNN CW Slopes both weak. SW Slopes ABCs also weak in a null of Coffs.
Seems like tropo is coming both directions.
On TVCL1, Kix from Wollongong was enhanced on 105.3, while TVCL2 was getting New FM from Newcastle.
On 106.9 TVCL1 was getting RDS from Vox Wollongong, while TVCL2 was getting RDS from Hit Newcastle.
ABC RN was coming in from Batemans Bay on 105.1 on TVCL1, while Triple M Orange was coming in on TVCL2.
2BOB also coming into Sydney here on TVCL2.
Nice one. Iāve never managed to catch 2WAY FM on my TEF server.
Edit: The tropo is now favouring the south, with north-facing TVCL2 also getting Vox from Wollongong on 106.9 with RDS:
w
Interestingly, TVCL1, which usually gets better reception to the south is getting Triple J from Manning River on 96.3 while TVCL2 is getting the usual Coast FM from Gosford on the same frequency. I suppose itās because TVCL1 has a horizontally mounted antenna while Coast FM is broadcasting on vertical polarity (and Triple J on mixed polarity).
Yes, Coast FM heavily favours vertical. Iāve received it on the car radio from Bungendore but never on the Yagi- itās always JJJ Taree (Manning River). The same applies with 2BOB- never had it on my H Yagi at Oatley, though I was in a poor location for tropo to the north.
Wow!
And also per report from @dxnerd, Iāve never heard from home (or on your TVCL2 rx), but have heard 2BOB on the Syd coast during strong coastal ducting last summer with the TEF.
Some temperature inversions were seen again in Mildura this morning with the cool change that came through last night.
-
Hit 96.9 Goulburn Valley wiped out FlowFM from Merinee, with full RDS decode. Worth noting Flow is normally a weak permanent reception in the western half of the Mildura township.
-
Griffith/MIA ABC received on 100.5 loud and clear. Didnāt see any RDS here which seems to be normal for the ABC stations around me also.
-
105.5 I didnāt catch what it was, but certainly wasnāt Triple J.
-
Both Hit 91.9 and Triple M 93.5 from Bendigo were both strong with full RDS decode as well.
As usual 5RM 91.5 and Magic 93.1 came in, abiet quite weakly.
Probably Classic FM from Ballarat.
Nice. Noted 100.1 3SPH with RDS into Melbourne this morning (a first). No audio from 3SPH though, due to some fault. No audio from 106.3 Flow FM (Mt.St.Leonard) either!
Some station trying to break through over 98.5 Apple FM, perhaps 3ONE?
A question @ninkeon58 re Mildura region RDS.
Do you know if 88.0 SON FM Mildura is still on air & transmitting with RDS?
Iām looking for a RDS Radio Text (RT) capture of it if possible.
Also is Flow FM 96.9 Merinee broadcasting a RDS RT message?
Mt Dowe levels high in Brisbane this morning including GGG.
Ditto, had 2BOB, 2WAY and also Radio Dungog (among many other north coasters) on this bandscan from South Coogee a few years ago:
Late Morning tropo still about in Victoria & Bass Strait. 98.3 3EL breaking through over OCR FM on the Melb TEF. Plenty of Bendigo advertisements & heard āEaglehawk Radioā mentioned.
Hit 99.7 Griffith is in with RDS too.
88.0 SON is still on air with at least basic ID RDS enabled. Getting the full info is going to need my SDR setup to know for sure what is being TXād, since the car stereo only does the name, not anything else.
96.9 FlowFM also had it enabled the last time I was in the Merinee area, itās a bit far out to receive where Iām based and with my current equipment at home.
I wouldnāt mind setting up a web interface for my SDR, if there is such a thing.
A new Bunbury node has popped up on:
Iām assuming this might be @Informer ? Well done if so.
There is some west coast tropo forecast for tomorrow morning by Hepburn. The Bunbury node can hear the Perth stations in flat conditions. Just checked 94.9 now and thereās no Geraldton, despite Hepburn showing some minor enhancement up the west coast.
(By the way, update your bookmarks to this site as the Polish URL no longer works).
Do you know if a Record button will be added to the Bunbury tuner? That way if we get Geraldton or other stations flying in at any given time, weāll also be able to keep a record of the receptions with the audio, not just the RDS. Many thanks.
If youāre on a desktop, you can also use something like OBS to do a screen recording with sound.
Scanning through the FM band on the west coast TEF servers, itās so empty compared to over here on the east coast
.
Yeah, I guess we have the smaller population and the condensation of the band to (mostly) 92-100 mhz thanks to VHF 3 & 5 being used in the south west (Bunbury region) for so long for that.
Is this a common occurance on 96.9 in Mildura? further south 95.3 Flow fm regularly fighting it out with 3SR (Triple M Goulburn Valley). Donāt know why Flow FM have been given Shepparton frequency in the Mallee.
Birchip/Donald had their Flow FM frequency changed because of i/f from Shepparton (was 97.7 now 106.5).
Youād think they could use a Gippsland frequency? eg 95.1 or 96.7?
