I had this too. Likely New Caledonia as that was what alerted me to tune to 90.0 (I heard French).
Took the night off last night, but tonight Bega/Cooma Commercials are in as well as Newcastle and Middle Brother.
Mt Uluara was in all day today. Even during the Country Hour!
No New Caledonia here this morning or tonight but I did get a new catch and it was the closest station that I have not logged yet.
92.3 2UUU Shoalhaven Heads, cannot believe I have not received it here before tonight.
I’ve had Batemans Bay and 105.9 2EC in all day, plus Canberra ABCs. Nothing as strong as Sunday night’s epic, but more consistent.
When I purchased the much praised TEF6686 I also purchased a couple of extra telescopic whip antennas. The included 75cm antenna simply isn’t long enough for optimum FM DX.
I purchased a 1m SMA connector telescopic whip & 1.4m BNC connector whip.
Both, whilst bringing in stronger signals were both unsuitable due to both anoyingly swivelling around on the white plastic antenna to ground isolator on the whip itself & that swivelling movement worsens with some outside wind.
I thought I should try and purchase a whip base with a F connector.
This part turned up today, which I fastened to the 1.4m whip along with a SMA to F adapter, which I had a few lying about. Turns out in this case, at least, that this proved to be a successful solution as the antenna didn’t swivel around.
If anyone is thinking of adding a TEF6686 to their xmas wish list. I noted today that the portables are now much cheaper on AliExpress. Often happens soon after I buy something, anyway continuing the advice, FM DX users might give consideration to purchasing a 1 or 1.2m telescopic whip with F male connector & adding a SMA male to F female adapter. At least this combination is so far working for me. The 1.4m length telescopic antenna is a little long & heavy for FM or the tuner, but the extra length always pleases for MW & SW usage & I can always reduce the length for FM depending on which end of the band I wish to optimize.
That’s very timely and fantastic info! I’ve been meaning to buy one, but yes, was unsure about the antennas
Some big signals again tonight, currently have Classic fm Orange and Canberra in strong hiss free stereo. Probably very close to local strength.
All other Canberra fm stations are in at varying strength.
Eagle fm also hitting full RDS decode strength on peaks.
I did have Rocky again today. Same spot at the water tower at Acacia Gardens on the car radio.
Canberra and Goulburn should continue to build over night peaking tomorrow morning.
Then unfortunately a few days of minimal Tropo as we wait for the next heatwave to pass.
Wide spread of signals in Brisbane from Rockhampton in the north to Middle Brother in the south.
Went up the hill again. Tropo was a bit more pedestrian but managed this:
Video of the DX site (looking north):
Very strong South Coast this morning , 103.5 2BA the strongest I have had it.
Classic fm over Triple J on 101.9, and RN over Triple M Orange on 105.1.
No Batemans Bay commercials or any signals from Eden.
Canberra very weak so probably peaked last night.
Same here.
103.7 Sky Sports Radio Nowra is in weakly now. First time I’ve heard it away from the coast.
Braidwood fm in again this morning on the car radio, it is a three way battle between it, 2RSR, and 2RE.
Also of interest I have found a pirate on 107.6 receivable near the water tower at Acacia Gardens. They were playing classic rock.
Canberra was stronger for me this morning than last night. But not quite good enough to get ABC DAB or DTV again though.
Well all the tropo seems to have gone for now…
But what a run… 7 days of almost continuous tropo from somewhere here!
Augurs well for the rest of the summer now that the storm season has passed.
Lol, storms are still occurring on a near daily basis down this way. Another line headed for here tonight.
Rockhampton seems to have faded out today after almost continuous reception for 2 weeks. Had Breeze 92.9 with RDS in the car in southern suburbs today; seemed enhanced.
Unusual for Canungra. Good find @TV.Cynic
Big New Cal signals this morning - up to 103.0 with RDS.
Nice!
Checked here - nothing.
Checked the ionosode graph for Brisbane & it peaked at 16MHz+ 45minutes ago & subsequently subsided away
We’ll keep on eye out. Thanks for the post.
Some catches from Buderim
Opening seems to be stronger an hour later. Gold Coast stations being wiped out.
