I am going to call it, tonight is better than Thursday night. I was not expecting such a big inland opening, it looked like coastal tropo up and down the coast according to Hepburn.
At my home location near Campbelltown with my rotatable antenna aimed south, there was some battle between Triple M Central Coast & GNFM on the 107.7 frequency just now, with the former being more dominant.
Unfortunately Triple M is at local strength, with no hint of CCI.
This is why Canberra is so good into Sydney tonight.
Tuesday night / Wednesday morning looks to be the next chance for Canberra tropo into Sydney, but not as strong.
Canberra DAB was detected but not strong enough to decode.
Also got Cooma/Bega commercials in a null of Sydney.
Middle Brother was still in.
Edit: Canberra DAB is strong at 60 signal.
2ABCFM on 99.1 (Tuggerarong)
Weak talk on 93.9 mixing with Roccy FM. Possible RN Tamworth
Weak Mt Dowe on 100.7, matched it with 100.9
Best Tropo of the season!
Also got Tuggeranong on 95.9 and 100.7
Might as well call it a night and put the radio back to 97.3 Knights Hill (local) for the History Quiz
My log is coming soon too. An amazing eveningā¦
Long post incoming.

Massive Canberra and Goulburn tropo into Sydney this morning. Stronger than last night.
Not the strongest I have ever had where all the Canberra outlets were at local strength on the car radio, that was before I had the dx setup.
RDS for 2XX fm this morningā¦,
Fulls RDS decode for Eagle Fm
I finally have GNFM over Triple M CC, not on the dx setup. On the car radio GNFM completely dominated Triple M CC at the corner of Stanhope Parkway and the Ponds BLVD. It also cut over Triple M CC near the metro train station on Old Windsor Rd Rouse Hill.
GNFM would have obliterated Triple M CC near the entrance to the M7 on Sunnyholt Rd at Acacia Gardens. Central Coast is shielded to the north here which allows reception of Power fm, Pulse and 2RPH over the CC community stations.
This location is the best spot for Eagle fm reception in all conditions.
My gosh, fantastic log!
Only 90.3 93.9 95.9 96.7 and 103.1 free. Iām sure their where many more hidden distant or low power gems underneath.
Please send some WA way!
Thanks!
88.1 also hard to detect due to 88.0 LPONs.
But yes, i donāt think Iāve had 94 of 100 standard frequencies occupied on one night before.
The TEF6686 tuners or SDR software with variable bandwidth filters would have no trouble digging signals out 0.1mhz apart.
That SDR# co-channel canceller even surprises me with what it can uncover. No good for cancelling strong local or semi local stations though.
Confused about one tonight. Had classical music on 103.5 (clear of splatter from 103.7) which seemed to line up with ABC FM on NSW time, so was thinking Armidale. Then I had 101.9 which was also ABC, but Iām almost certain it was Radio National, not Local Radio as the database shows for Armidale on 101.9. It was Waleed Aly talking after 9pm AEDT.
Also have Breeze 102.5 (presuming Tenterfield) and ABCs from Mt Dowe, so Armidale makes sense, but the 101.9 programming doesnāt
There is a 2kw Radio National at Monto (west of Bundaberg) on 101.9ā¦maybe itās that?
Iāve got Armidale on 104.3, Inverell GEM RN, Glen Innes (2CBD), Coffs, Mt Dowe and Middle Brother tonight.
Some logs (mainly RDS) from yesterday evening (Dec 10th) DXing from North Head, Manly (Syd) & some surrounds.

Add to the list ABCers from Taree, ABC Newcastle stations, all Port Stephens outlets
All Wollongong outlets, 103.5 & 105.1 Batemans Bay, All Sydney & Bowral & Katoomba outlets & more. There wasnāt many free channels. Sometimes up to 3 stations on a single frequency. Also noted some ABC Kempsey outlets.
Reception moved from peaked Orange area early evening to peak down in Batemans Bay late evening.
More logs from this morning & pics yet to comeā¦
The RDS Forum has a couple of pics & some other notes posted earlier.
I have updated most of our RDS Worksheet with my RDS logs re changes, new additions etc.
All above logs with the TEF6686 handheld tuner & a 1.4m telescopic whip.
I thought that, but itās on NSW time.
Given @TV.Cynic 's similar reception, Iām just going to conclude it is Armidale. I also have much the same reception of the others here too.
A quieter night for tropo in Sydney tonight,
Middle Brother in at moderate levels, weak Classic fm Canberra.
Eagle fm at moderate levels in stereo on peaks.
Looks like coastal and inland tropo will build into Tuesday morning and evening and then peak Wednesday morning when Canberra will be back into Sydney again with some strength, but not as strong as last night / this morning.
Thursday heatwave conditions and NW winds will kill any tropo.
Saturday morning May see some inland Tropo particularly Canberra into Sydney again.
Forecast based on Hepburn Tropo forecasts.
Yes, but it is picking up again. All Canberra outlets in again, but much weaker than last night. 88.3 Coota is there, decent ABC Taree outlet strengths. 92.3 Bathurst there. Maybe opportunities for Dubbo region early tomorrow morningā¦
Nice that the tropo drought here on the NSW coast has finally broken.
I thought Radio National was live around the country? Or am I mistaken?
But I agree more likely to be Armidale anyway.
Not RN -only PNN.
93.9 2LFF Young is now in.
