AM and FM DX

That would have been SpE reception not tropo.

Only in the car though. I can’t receive any of these indoors on my stereo.

Another SpE NZ opening this afternoon but very weak. Intermittently receiving 92.4 Coast fm Invercargill, only just making it above the noise floor on the peaks.
Some of these signals might be received by Tropo in the next few days.

3;15 pm edit , very brief all gone now.

An upgrade on the Hepburn forecast charts for Australia and NZ for the next couple of days.
More widespread extreme intense tropo for the NSW coast, and better chance of NZ tropo.
The predicted ducts favor the South Island to Australia, Hedgehope (Invercargill) to Australia.
Maybe tropo reception of 92.4 Coast fm???
Intense ducts don’t penetrate much inland though, so reception if it occurs would be the most elevated coastal suburbs. Stanwell Tops would be the best spot to try for NZ tropo.
Can you have SpE on top of a tropo signal??

Things are already starting to kicking into gear with Newcastle commercials and 2NUR into Sydney with weak noisy stereo.

Will we get SpE three days in a row?

Was picking up Newcastle Commercials on the Hume near Bargo including a rare catch for me.
Triple M Newcastle on 102.9 mixing with 2ST as well as 2NUR on 103.7
Let’s see what I can get once I get back home to Bowral.

Following on from earlier FM DX report:-
Noted that 100.9 Connect FM audio dropped to silence just before midday & the RDS was showing their old 2BACR data. This was a giveaway indicator that their Standby transmitter was in operation, but also not switching to backup music. For the dxers their Standby Transmitter PI code is 2009 & I’ve reinstated that in our RDS list as a standby TX/RDS; both worksheets. But the silent standby TX enabled me to notch out the carrier of 100.9 2BAC & receive Sky Sports Radio - Bathurst.

After Palmerston North reception I received West Coast ZM on 91.7 & a few Greymouth (Paporoa) outlets.

Interestingly 89.1 2BLU was silent carrier around midday & on the SDR I noted another transmission underneath. It was a talk station, but by the time I notched out the two 19kHz pilot carrier sidebands of 2BLU to hear the station clearly underneath the audio of 2BLU returned (but to be sure, to be sure Mr Murphy), I’m sure it was SENZ Greymouth I was hearing underneath.

Getting enhanced ABC Taree reception here.

One never knows. With it quiet a couple of weeks prior to yesterday & being the 25th today there’s a fair chance of something the next two or three days

That would be something! Especially from NZ to receive both modes of transmission at same time from same station.

Several times I’ve had strong NSW tropo & Qld SpE FM DX happening at the same time & that’s what I’d describe as chaotic FM DXing, very confusing at times

I’m getting a bit of newcastle at the moment as well as a very strong Great Lakes FM 101.5.

I am getting very similar to @TheChase, local strength Triple J and Classic fm Newcastle.
Rhema Newcastle is completely dominating 2SSR. It is so strong I have full RDS decode and no hint of 2SSR .

Triple M Newcastle and Hit 106.9 are both decoding RDS, no RDS on 2NUR or New fm.
101.5 Great Lakes fm receivable under the splatter of WS Fm (first time catch)

Manning River National except Triple J.
2BA Batemans Bay stronger than last night.
2HD Port Stephens.

Tomorrow should be better again according to Hepburn.

Middle Brother was Good to Strong in Bowral. No 2GLA though nor Port Stephens nor Taree Commercials.

Tropo/Ducting? Wow!

I’m now receiving Newcastle 99.7 (just), 103.7 2NUR, 106.9 mixing with VOX & 102.9 with SDR FM CoChannel canceller. No luck with 100.5MHz Newcastle.
Enhanced Triple J 101.5 Canberra reception dominating this frequency here.
Now receiving RDS on Eagle FM. Several RDS updates there.
Tried for 107.7 GNFM, but Triple M dominating, but GN FM heard with FM CoCh canceller.

See RDS thread for 97.5 2HD notes

Quick Update: 97.9 2ABCFM Grafton now being received 11pm AEDST.

Quite a broad opening to Victoria tonight - just a few Melbourne stations from 93.1 up to 106.7. Also Geelong, Warrnambool, Ballarat, Bendigo, Horsham, Portland, Shepparton. Also Taree ABCs as the opening started to fade. The it switched with Rockhampton coming in.

My tropo has switched around to the south, with Eagle fm very strong, but no RDS. Normally even a good mono signal allows an RDS decode, they might have changed their RDS settings. Also 2KY Goulburn.

Orange and Canberra nationals receivable in mono, just below stereo.

Real fm Mudgee. Middle Brother receivable, but no 2RE or 2BRW on 88.9, 2RSR.

Illawarra enhanced massively, Power fm over Rhema CC, Vox back over Hit 106.9.
2RPH and 2LIV causing massive CCI to the normally received Central Coast stations.

Just tropo no SpE and tropo like what is happening up in QLD.

OMG there’s simply no rest for us…

Tropo & SpE DX now occuring.

Canberra so strong this morning I had One Way FM 91.9 Canberra with RDS in vehicle (Sydney) driving this morning.

Now there’s Auckland’s 91.8 MORE FM coming in.

Hobart into Brisbane this morning. Rockhampton also strong.

Melbourne now with RDS.

Woke up and Middle Brother ABCs and Newcastle Commercials/Community are still in.
Canberra stronger than usual, 2HD Belmont on 90.5, Central Coast was very strong that 104.5 was all Star rather that 2UUU and WSFM Richmond was also received.

I am having similar reception to @ozbark and @Dani-Chan.

Middle Brother and medium strength Newcastle commercials / communities.

I have also received 91.9 1way fm too, but not as strong.

The Central Coast stations were reflecting away earlier this morning, Star 104.5 was below RDS threshold, 93.3 was 2RPH, and Today’s Country had scrambled RDS.

I had a strange signal on 94.3 playing Ed Sheridan’s perfect , could not get an ID on it, it is now Sky Racing Goulburn.

No SpE of 91,8 More fm Auckland here, I was listening around the time you posted, could it be tropo, highly possible with the current conditions?

Could that have been Dubbo?
I have enhanced reception of Orange & Bathurst.

It did cross my mind but the propagation didn’t fit.
It was SpE & weaker compared to yesterday, but it was uncommonly early SpE reception.
I heard Auckland signals: 91.8, 91.0, 92.6, 92.4 & 97.4
There was also 91.6 More FM Northland in the mix.

No further NZ since 9am
UPDATE: Change that. 91.4 Concert FM - Mt.TeAroha (Waikato) being heard now. That’s better

UPDATE 2. At 10am. 89.0 RNZ Concert - Palmerston North in now.
