It hasn’t been a very strong opening for anything for me, as I type this Hobart Classic fm is hitting stereo thresholds.
Nor I. Mostly weak & brief. Given dismal tropo season past few years & so far poor SpE season, I’ll accept DX scraps. Lol.
Hopefully SpE season will improve later.
That is it for me today have to go to work.
So won’t be able to dx for the rest of the day hopefully the openings keep coming.
Today’s SpE event in Sydney took this path.
South Island NZ Hedgehope, Invercargill, South Australia, Adelaide, Mt Lofty, and finally Hobart, Mt Wellington. There was no slip of stations north of 35’ latitude.
I wonder where the E clouds would have been positioned for this reception in Sydney?
Here as well:
I had a 2Es opening to WA with hit 95.3 Albany briefly reaching RDS level. Weak Bunbury (90.1,93.3,94.1) and Geraldton (98.1) as well.
Nice!
I wonder if your wide area WA reception was aided by the best tropo so far this summer at the WA end. I couldn’t null out Albany over Perth (92.1, 92.9 94.5 or 96.9) this morning in Bunbury. Geraldton has been in all day, booming in now.
Tropo heads up for Christmas Day to Wednesday morning at least.
Hepburn is going all out with extreme ducting up and down the NSW Coast to peak around Tuesday. Also at the tail end of this event NZ tropo could be a possibility in the coastal elevated suburbs of Sydney.
As SpE also peak around Christmas / New Year NZ could be received by SpE or tropo into Sydney, as well as TAS, SA, and Tropical QLD signals.
If this Tropo event eventuates it will play havoc with tv reception in Wollongong and Newcastle.
Tonight I am getting extremely strong CC Communities with Radio 50+ and Today’s Countru at local strength with full RDS decode. Rhema CC is suffering severe CCI from Power fm.
Wollongong tv is dropping in and out due to CCI with Newcastle.
2BA Batemans Bay is also strong enough to seek on my dx setup.
Dx forecast charts
Yes, tonight I was getting most Sydney community stations here in Newcastle with stations like 2WOW, 2BAC and 2GLF making their occasional appearance. Still nothing from 2RSR and very little from 2HWK though.
Also 2ST 91.7 and Batemans Bay ABCs on 101.9 and 103.5 could be heard as well.
Middle Brother ABCs were stronger than usual with 94.7 News being received.
Starting to swing a bit more inland, 2ST just below RDS freehold, Music fm over 2BL(T)
Eagle fm and Classic fm coming up from underneath the noise floor.
A good day for dxing.
Now some Tropo. Canberra very strong tonight with DAB received.
Also Good reception of Brown Mountain.
SpE alert Auckland into Sydney,
91.8 More fm Auckland just below RDS on peaks.
This is a massive event and goes all the way up to 106.2 The Rock Auckland.
Stations receivable
89.4 News Talk ZB
90.2 Today fm
91.8 More fm
92.6 Concert fm
93.4 The Breeze
94.2 The Edge
103.8. My fm
105.4 Gold fm
106.2 The Rock
All the rest are blocked by adjacent receivable stations.
Edit 91.6 More fm Northlands
Picking up 91.8 Auckland on the Micra Radio on the Hume Highway north of Mittagong.
More fm Auckland, unfortunately not strong enough for RDS decode.
Unfortunately it looks like the opening is closing. Wife telling me to stop fiddling with the radio and join them for Xmas!!!
Big signals into Brisbane from coastal and inland NSW with large fluctuations. ABC Riverina on 89.9; Mt Dowe and Coffs stronger than usual. Then Rockhampton/Yeppoon.
Anything on 88.3, 89.1, 90.7 or 91.5?
Concert FM - Palmerston North 89.0 is there now.
Also 91.4 Rhema (Palmerston North), fighting it out with 91.4 Concert FM Hamilton.
Have lost count of all the Auckland stations heard or spotted in the SDR spectrum over the past 30 mins.
91.6 More FM was there earlier with full RDS. Thanks @Ant5376
Update: 100.2 Today FM is there too in peaks. A tight squeeze between 100.1 & 100.3 at 11.46am AEDST
We also have troppo on Xmas Day. I remember driving from Redcliffe to Brisbane and listening to SAFM a few years ago.
