They’re missing an opportunity as far as I’m concerned. 3BO- Stinking Up The Airwaves.
Yep, really doesn’t say much. Even Ballarat’s 102.3 just says ‘3BA’ - simple but nothing wrong with it. There would be enough characters available to do ‘3BO 93.5’ as well
I had a good run yesterday and some again this morning. My first noted NZ reception at this location was achieved this morning - 90.0, 91.6 and 94.0 from Northland. Yesterday I had RDS-level signals from Bendigo (over semi-locals from the Sunshine Coast), Ballarat, Warrnambool, Mt Gambier, Melbourne and Hobart, as well as the ABCs from Northern Tasmania drowning out the Gold Coast stations
New Caledonia, Fiji (88.2),Vanuatu (90.0), North and Central QLD all heard this morning from Sydney. There was a weak carrier on 88.6 as well at times, possibly Tonga?
Yesterday morning I was driving northbound on the M1 Princes Motorway between Albion Park Rail and Berkeley and as I was listening to 2MMM, another signal started to interfere with the Triple M signal. Between Yallah and the Kanahooka Road exit ramp, the station completely wiped out the 2MMM signal for a second or two, before returning to the 2MMM signal for a few seconds. Then, as I was approaching the Northcliffe Drive exit, the station had wiped out Triple M entirely, for almost two minutes.
The station had a female host and it also received a phone call from someone located in “Middle Park”. The host talked about the weather in South-East Queensland and mentioned a town named Maryborough, before the Triple M signal returned for good. This occurred around 11am and it was on the 104.9 MHz frequency. Does anyone know what station it could be?
Two possibilities - ABC Local Radio Southern Queensland (Sth Downs) or community station Sunshine FM on the Sunny Coast
I’d add a third possibility: ABC Local Radio Moranbah. It’s a more common skip distance, and Central QLD FM was strong into Sydney yesterday. It depends if they were on local programming, or taking a generic Queensland feed.
ABC local radio upper hunter? Might not have qlds content though.
That’s on 105,7.
They have News Radio on 104.9.
Some weird reception lately, Wellington NZ LPFM aircraft bounce on 87.9 two days running while driving home from work up Eastlink in Melbourne, and Sat morning 26 Nov, SpE brought All Country FM 88.0 Kingaroy, and Power FM Toowoomba 87.8 to my humble little Pioneer car stereo tuner. If the receiver isn’t odd enough for SpE, the signals stayed in for an hour ! Listening was at Hurstbridge in VIC while attempting to compile a list of Melbourne LPFM stations. Kingaroy is at 1382 km, while presumed Cabarlah 87.8 is 1301 km.
New Caledonia 90.0 and 93.0 heard this morning in Brisbane on the commute.
Western Victoria and Tasmania into Brisbane tonight
Where is there a list of NZ broadcasters online?
Similar to this ACMA Register of Radiocommunications Licences (RRL) would be great.
I’ve put up some video of the weekend’s spectacular reception here:

Excuse the poor video quality- the camera phone is the most practical way to record these fleeting DX signals.
This is my first bandscan of AM Radio. All of the stations were received from my home location somewhere in the Illawarra region of New South Wales. Unfortunately, my iPod Dock (my only portable device which is capable of listening to AM Radio) was unable to receive any AM stations, so I had to rely on my 2002 Nissan Pulsar. I was able to identify most of the stations, however some stations I haven’t been able to.

I would’ve thought that 1170 would most likely be Magic 2CH Sydney, especially if you’ve received the other major Sydney AM stations!
EDIT: Oh, and 1269AM is probably 2SM Sydney. How did I miss that one?!
You’re right. I’ve just realised that I forgot to list the station in my original post! :S
To be honest, I completely forgot about 2SM as well.
Good list!
I’d be surpised if 1044 is ABC Upper Hunter… as even here in Newcastle, reception is non existent to poor.
Also as you haven’t listed 981 2NM from Muswellbrook whose signal is generally much better than 1044’s.
Could what you were hearing just a bit of splatter from SBS on 1035?
Anyone know who the Adelaide station is on 1701 kHz in the Chinese language ?
Thanks.
I agree that it’s highly unlikely that 1044 is ABC Upper Hunter. In all honesty, I was only under the impression that it might have been ABC Upper Hunter, as I was able to receive a few Newcastle stations.
Initially, I thought that 1026 & 1044 might have been splatter from SBS as well, however I can confirm that it definitely wasn’t splatter. The station (both on 1026 & 1044) had a military marching beat, however the signal was quite weak. SBS (on 1035) wasn’t broadcasting a military marching beat at the time.
3XY Greek Radio Melbourne?
