Yes, older tuners don’t offer very good selectivity as the FM band was less crowded back then. But the plus side is that they generally have better sound.
Meanwhile, the westerly winds have hit eastern NSW and tropo has pretty much disappeared.

Two methodologies to address this issue.
Or engage in another ungodly act… stream it.
You could get a Bluetooth adaptor for your NAD system.
HHH FM were apparently moving sometime in November and getting a new studio. I’d say from what you’re saying @Laoma, that the move has taken place and as a result of being “frigged with” it’s now overmodding. Unfortunately I can’t really get HHH enough anywhere I go frequently to have a listen myself.
Overmod is a common problem with some submetros and small broadcasters, usually because they turn the output level up to match everyone else without understanding that requires expensive processing equipment. All it does is reduce the coverage. On modern dsp tuners bad distortion, particularly in fringe coverage areas will result.
Went up to Cambewarra today. Was able to get Canberra DAB. Also took a pic of the tower to post up. There’s some FM panels up the top just below the UHF. But I have a vague memory that they were there before so not sure what 2ST will be using. If that’s for 101.1 perhaps they’ll combine into it?
Note: 2ST is running promos saying that the 91.7 signal will soon improve and the AM will be switched off in the new year.
That’s a pretty solid looking tower for one that isn’t considered a major site - by TV and radio standards anyway.
Please forgive me, I already have a Google music dongle.
@matt86 yeah you might be right, but the audio isn’t too bad. I technically not in the SWR licence area, and I doubt in the SWR licence area it would have any impact.
Very strong signals from Wide Bay up to Rockhampton in Brisbane tonight. Even receiving 50w ABC’s from Miriam Vale.
Mackay now very strong with
97.9 ABC FM
98.7 MMM
99.5 JJJ
101.1 ABC Local - very clear despite cochannel Logan 101.1
102.7 RN wiping out 4DDB
104.3 PNN
Bundaberg and Rockhampton were still coming in strong as well.
Great catches again.
It seems like Mackay is the furthest to the north that you regularly get stations from up your way?
Is Townsville received much at all?.. I don’t recall you mentioning that much.
I’ve received 4TO on 102.3.
Radio Norfolk (VL2NI) 89.9 was picked up this morning on the headlands at Sawtell via tropo. The tropo path from Northern NSW to NI is quite good this morning.
congrats to Mechie for that great catch
New Caledonia into the Coffs Coast headlands via tropo. 90.0 and 95.0 were noted.
Any sight of NRJ 93.5?
Unfortunately, no. 93.5 is blocked by Super Radio Mid North Coast Port Macquarie which is quite strong on the headlands in Coffs.
The Hepburn charts are only showing marginal coastal tropo at best but I am getting moderate to quite strong at times 2BA from Batemans Bay, surprisingly Wollongong is weaker then normal. No RDS on Wave fm. Power fm weaker then normal.
The 103.5 2BA signal is probably better then the last few intense coastal tropo events.
Middle Brother nationals quite strong too with Classic in stereo, and all other stations getting above the splatter of the locals.
Obviously the hot air is moving in for tomorrow’s 40’c day for western Sydney and it is creating ducts with the left overs from yesterday’s southerly.
The Hepburn charts are quite wrong today.
To add to my last post the current ducts are creating massive reflections with the Newcastle national fm signals. Triple J / Classic fading down below the noise floor and then back up to stereo again.
This is more an indication of strong tropo then a marginal event in my opinion.
Yes. Noted that too throughout the day.
The tropo not strong here, but noted tropo enhancement in directions of Orange, Canberra and slightly for Taree & Goulburn & the tropo persisted all morning.
Had RDS from 103.5 Orange & weak reception of Canberra community stations in this morning.
