89.9 Richmond / Windsor didn’t seem to be on yesterday afternoon either. All I could hear was a pilot tone.
Back on now.
I missed that.
Pity Hawkesbury Gold isn’t stronger here.
103.1 Tamworth clear into Lake George now. A big surprise. Sydney with RDS. 99.1 Narrabri over the top of Tuggers.
That’s the most water I’ve seen in Lake George in a long time.
That’s the initial reason I went up there. Imagine my surprise when I found long haul tropo in!
Getting Canberra FMs up here tonight …
91.1, 91.9, 92.7, 101.5 in a null of Great Lakes FM, 102.3, 103.9, 104.7, 105.5 and 106,3 all there.
98.3 still seemed to be Radio National though,
Interestingly only 106.3 had RDS (not the ABCs).
Eagle FM with RDS too.
And as posted in the Digital Radio thread, just a touch of Canberra DAB received too!
Strong opening to the north into Brisbane with Wide Bay stations very strong.
Receiving Rockhampton ABC’s + Hit 107.9 + Yeppon
Also receiving Mackay (845 km) - MMM on 98.7 with good stereo signal plus ABCFM on 97.9 (over top of Noosa) JJJ on 99.5
I don’t know if it fits here, 630 News Radio Sydney seems to be over deviating lately, and is causing interference down to 603kHz, and up past 666kHz. It now stops me dxing 666 ABC Canberra , which could be received quite well during the day on my car radio across NW Sydney.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Could this be a fault with the transmitter out at Prestons? 576 and 702 are both fine.
Yes it has been reported by a prominent Sydney DXer. He isn’t too happy about it either. He too had trouble receiving 2CN Canberra.
Who would you report it to ABC or BAI Communications? Yes it is very annoying I miss being able to listen to 2CN on my car radio.
It’s frustrating I know, but I guess authorities are probably unlikely to be interested since it doesn’t interfere with other Sydney stations.
The ABC might look into it if you let them know.
Exactly my thinking unless it get worse and starts interfering with 576 or 702 they won’t do anything.
ACMA and the ABC aren’t interested in protecting fortuitous reception, so it looks like my 2CN reception is gone for now.
At the moment due to COVID restrictions it’s pretty much emergency access only at Artarmon & Gore Hill sites, but if I see one of the BAI techs & remember, I’ll bring it up with them. But yes, definitely report it to the ABC, they’ll more than likely get BAI to look at it.
Would it be bad enough if you were at say Goulburn & it interferes with ABC Canberra? ABC/BAI would definitely look into it then.
What damage, if any to TX equipment does over modulation* cause? Surely BAI would want to limit, that?
*thanks @Vidiot
Would it cause a (perhaps slight) loss of strength of the main signal on 630? That might be of interest.
None. It’s actually over-modulation on AM. It just causes splatter beyond the usual bandwidth.
Over-modulation reminds me of Crocmedia’s acquisition of 1620 Gold Coast.
1kHz pilot screeching all over 54kHz either side at 1.5km from the TX or less.
1593 Terranora HPON for Sky Racing suffered the over modulation within it’s 10km radius.
The mess was clearly audible north of Dreamworld.
One call to ACMA fixed it.
Some observations on a drive to the Upper Hunter today
-
Ravensworth Mining TXs. For some reason, 2NM is on both 93.3 and 94.9. Power FM is supposed to be on 94.9.
-
SBS Muswellbrook still on air on 107.7. One of the few that still seems to be running. There wasn’t any sign of Murrurundi on 100.1, but I may not have been close enough, as I only went as far north as Scone.
-
No real catches of note with the westerly winds about, but got weak 92.7 Zoo and 93.5 Triple M Dubbo ((heard “Triple M” mentioned) on the high side of Muswellbrook.
-
Got an unID station on 92.5 whilst parked on the high side of Aberdeen, wasn’t ABC Gosford as it wasn’t the football coverage which was on Local Radio at the time.
