I am at another location today in the Carlingford area. Different aerial (rabbit ears) and get 100% for (98.5 FM), Smooth is 80%, 92.1 is 100%, WSFM is 100%, 96.1 FM is also 100%. I am using a USB stick radio. It is a definite improvement well done @RFBurns for 2000 FM. I am bit rusty on my mandarin though to understand what they say on 2000 FM though
. 2000 FM was never this good here.
another boombox, this time tuned to 102.3 Canberra in my flat (too cold outside
Good tropo to Griffith this morning:
Also had 102.5 Deniliquin weak. Sydney and Orange also enhanced.
Are there any Bendigo stations you can target from your location, or does Canberra destroy them all? In a decent opening Iâd reckon those blowtorches would make it your way
All blocked unfortunately. 89.5 may be possible as Goulburn and Tuggeranong are weaker.
Forgot to mention I had the low power ABCRR (96.3) and ABCRN (97.1) relays from Young in one spot.
Yes itâs a shame, I reckon the only Victorian stations Iâve got any chance of DXing at all would be the Latrobe ABCs (most likely 96.7 or 100.7).
I did get those whilst on a cruise ship off the coast of Batemans Bay a couple of years ago.
Getting Canberra FMs tonight.
Tried for RDS on 1WAY 91.9, which was hissy stereo, but no go, needs a stronger signal obviously to others which can be obtained with a weak signal eg Eagle FM Goulburn.
No DAB either
Canberra national fmâs are only slightly enhanced, same with Eagle Fm at my location. But Orange is belting in tonight.
102.7 Classic received in fairly good stereo.
Even the Orange commercial fm stations are being received but faintly.
I noticed this new(ish?) entry in the May 2020 ACMA Excel transmitter spreadsheet.
Braidwood 2PB 100.3 Retransmission 200 watts
Services Site 2.8 km SW of Braidwood MT GILLAMATONG
Seems like a retransmission of News Radio not far from @dxnerd ⌠any sign of that on air where you are?
Nothing aside from weak reception of Yass on 100.3 here. I am planning a trip out to Braidwood next week so will check again when/if I get there.
Why they need a repeater for NewsRadio in Braidwood is anyoneâs guess. There are no other native ABC transmitters there. Itâs a strange choice of frequency too because of the Yass co-channel, not to mention potential adjacent channel interference from NewsRadio Batemans Bay. Why would they risk interference from their own service?
I havenât checked the spreadsheet in a while; a good way to spend lockdown!
Interesting that Canberra has the callsign 2PB for their FM service and not 2PNN in line with the other NewsRadio FM services
Thatâs probably because it was originally an AM service on 1440kHz before it converted to FM in 2005, whereas all other ABC Newsradio FM services that use the xPNN callsign started on FM from day one.
And makes me think that 2PB in Braidwood will be fed off air from Canberra.
Yes, interesting that theyâve gone for a News Radio retransmission as opposed to Local Radio or Triple J, which would have been more popular.
Will check the reception from The Station Of The Beast (666) and RN Canberra (846) out there too. They might be relatively stronger than 103.9 NewsRadio into Braidwood. FM from Canberra is OK but not great in Braidwoodâs town centre from memory.
Braidwoodâs demographic skews older and the yoof are probably all streaming, so not much need for JJJ.
Just popped out to Braidwood for lunch. There is nothing on 100.3 here. Both 666 and 846 Canberra seek on the car radio, so no real need for an FM translator for these services. Mix 106.3 can be received with RDS and 103.9 is stronger, so no real need for 100.3 either.
Are the 2GN 95.3 or Eagle FM 96.1 relays on air there yet?
93.1, actually. ![]()
Neither the 2GN nor Eagle repeater is on air. I suspect those will happen once 2GN converts to FM.
Smooth 95.3 was just audible in town; it may cause some issues in tropo but a similar situation existed on 94.5 with 2BRW/fBi.
