AM and FM DX

yes that is a good spot for Sydney fm reception, with a bit of tropo you can get Sydney fm along the whole length of Lake George. I believe the escarpment along Lake George reflects the Sydney fm signal down onto the road, their is generally no signal between Goulburn and Lake George, but then you sometimes get a much stronger stronger signal along Lake George. Canberra Fm suffers severe multipath along Lake George.

After looking at your radio, have 105.1 Triple M finally worked out how bad the ‘Music That Feels Good’ format is and flipped back to the Greatest Hits from the 70’s to Now format?

In Melbourne this week, and from my 26th floor north facing apartment in Southbank, the multipathing on FM from Mt Dandenong is really bad - very difficult to impossible to get a clean signal on many stations.

The only Melbourne FM station that has a truly good signal here is JOY 94.9.

In fact it’s easier to listen to Ballarat or Bendigo stations even though they are often in mono simply because they have a clean signal,

Another case of thank goodness for DAB.

Got faint reception of ABC News Radio 104.7 from Colac earlier tonight.

Haven’t received this one in Melbourne before. Given Colac stations are apparently weak towards Geelong (& Melbourne?), I figured this was something of a catch.

There was also something weak on 106.3, couldn’t tell if it was MIXX Colac or FLOW from Mt St Leonard.

Joy 94.9 is pretty strong - I can hear it when I am at Uni deep underground. It is the only station I can pick up down there.

I had a Toyota Camry rental today and got some great AM and FM results on the car radio down the Great Ocean Radio and also on the way back via Colac

FM

  • All ABC’s from Northern Tasmania. Picked these up as early as Werribee.
  • LAFM 89.3
  • Chilli 90.1 with RDS and 99.7
  • ABC station on 98.9, I don’t know what this is.
  • All ABCs Western Vic near Colac
  • Edge FM 102.5 Deniliquin with RDS from up in the Otways (but not 102.1 Wangaratta).
  • Triple J Swan Hill 105.3 on the Westgate Bridge.

All Gippsland ABCs could be easily received in Apollo Bay.

Side note - Flow FM Beechs Forest 90.9 is on air, but not 97.9 for Apollo Bay.

AM highlights were 729 and 891 from Adelaide received at Winchelsea.

It could possibly be RN from Currie at King Island.

I wondered that, but thought given its low powered that it was too far away?

Maybe, but I refer you to this post from 2 years ago:

King Island Radio has a maximum ERP of 200 watts.

So with that in mind, anything is possible in that regard.

Thanks, that’s probably what it was then.

Received this station with a RDS near Yea. Also receiving Edge 102.5 Deniliquin, Hit 104.9, ABC National on 105.3 and 2GoFM on 107.7?

Unlikely to be 2GO-FM. More likely 3RUM 107.7.

It sounded more professional though and had some European soccer broadcast on.

That would be NewsRadio from Goulburn Weir carrying the BBC World Service overnight

Yes most likely from Mt.Major (Shepparton, Vic) serving the ‘Goulburn Valley’ given logs & info.

Some enhancement about this morning.

This from Braye Park Lookout in Newcastle:

  • 94.7 Triple J Tamworth instead of the usual News Radio Taree (other Tamworth ABCs also received).
  • 105.1 Triple M Orange with RDS! (other Orange stations also received including Hit105.9 but no RDS).
  • ABCs from Upper Namoi (but not News 101.5), and Coffs Harbour also in, but from the Central West Slopes only 107.1 ABC Local was received.
  • Faint reception of many Sydney community stations also received, not normally heard there.

check out my new toy! - the new Icom R-8600. Costs a staggering $3700. I sold my R-8500 to help fund the new purchase. Plus its nice to have a fresh new look. The R-8500 was several years old.

Anyone able to identify for me what station this is? https://streamable.com/aiu0z

I’m getting it the strongest on 678khz

Edit: Turned out to be ABC Corowa on 675khz

Keep in mind the 9khz spacing rule… ie. if the frequency isn’t evenly divided by 9 then you are not tuned in correctly.
