I think the reason is that LED signage is heavy and the outer walls on levels 3 and 4 of Shane Warne Stand will need to be strengthened to support it.

I wonder how many complained when Robbie Williams was announced. Or I wonder if it has more to do with one’s gender.

To me it should always be an Australian artist male or female, but I prefer to just care about the grand final game itself.

Americans don’t care or understand AFL so it’s really shit to have American performers perform at a an Australian football grand final.

That’s just me.

The Grand Final is one of the most watched programs of the year - it makes some sense to get the best possible performer to do the pre-game entertainment.

I recall hearing that Michael Gudinski was instrumental in getting the performer for the Grand Final

Last time Katy Perry performed at the MCG, Melbourne was in lockdown a few weeks later. The AFL should be careful here.

I was at the 2022 grand final and the best thing about it was Robbie Williams.

Some argue Katy Perry’s Super Bowl performance ranks in the top 5 of performances so I think we are in for a good opening.

I don’t see why you wouldn’t? You could then make more money on replicas.

What is this?

Presume it’s the back half of Aussie, Aussie, Aussie (usually spelt ‘Oi’).

Katy Perry is a bit of a flop these days so can’t imagine they had to twist her arm too hard. Still a name, but not in the stratosphere she was a decade or so ago.

She’s got an album to promote, and given her latest single crashed, she’s going need all the help she can get.

Not sure who the AFL are trying to appeal to with this - is it those who grew up listening to Katy Perry, or is it those who listen to KIIS, Hit, etc.

I guess the sold out residency in Vegas constitutes a flop

Not like Robbie Williams was releasing music at number 1 when he performed. Yeah her most recent single flopped but she is one of the most successful female artists of our time. She is an absolute sensation when performing. She is there to give something to the non football fan. Because guess what football fans have the game.

Anyway on to afl. Always nice to wake up to a win against Carlton. I find their supporters so obnoxious. I have been to all games this year in Melbourne and I don’t find any of the other teams supporters like this. Even Collingwood fans will turn to you and say that was a good goal or mark.

If you’re doing a residency in Vegas, you’re a bit washed TBH. That’s the whole part of getting a residency.

Didn’t say he was. No one in their prime is going to do the AFL GF. It’s not the Super Bowl.

Hasn’t had a proper hit in about a decade - which is fine. As I said, still a name but she is no longer the force she was.

Ok?

Im not sure washed up is the right term. If U2 was playing at the GF the same wouldn’t be said.

Harry Styles is also doing a stint.

Bit different doing the Sphere versus a hotel/resort. But even still, U2 are not the pull they once were. It’s not a bad thing, just the life cycle of a major artist.

Maybe Taylor Swift can do the AFL final/a Vegas residency in 15 years.

Hey if they get Taylor swift at the AFL Grand Final in 15 years I would be all for it. I’m glad they are putting more thought into the entertainment. I will go back to Robbie Williams in 2022 - I was there - it was fantastic to watch live and ended up being more exciting than the match. You pay so much to be there it’s nice to get something worthy of watching.

Katy Perry hasn’t been idol and not performing she will give a great show to begin with.

I know a lot are saying they would like australian artists but it’s not like we have a huge list of Australian artists knocking down the door to play. When they got Tones and I the crowd was not into it.having artists from 10 years ago might resonate better.

Great job with the Olympics singing the Brisbane Lions team song in the opening ceremony this morning in French! A bit weird though that they only chose that one to do and none of the other teams or leagues from around the world.
