AFL

I think it is valid. Should the AFL hold the grand final at an empty MCG or an interstate stadium with crowds (although not full house due to social distancing)?

Any provision from extreme extenuating circumstances? I think if we got to the position at the end of the season where there was potential for 60000+ to watch the Grand Final in Perth vs zero in Melbourne, the public pressure alone to change that would force a rethink at the very least. I’d bet the house that the MCG contract was written never, ever envisaging a Grand Final with zero spectators let in

Because the eastern states have been the ones that have really supported the AFL. They should be rewarded and it would be good exposure.

There will likely be crowds allowed in NSW by October but won’t be in Victoria.

WA has been really difficult to deal with by all accounts so apparently the AFL aren’t even considering it there.

I don’t disagree with that at all, there’s no reason that the Grand Final should be fixed to one venue. Unfortunately, that’s what the case is, and will continue to be for another 37-odd years - the MCG won’t give it up without a fight.

And I don’t disagree with that - will be interesting to see how it pans out

I know he was joking. But he is still a goose.

I think McGuire is more of a goose for suggesting that an AFL Grand Final would be more popular than the NRL one up here (that’s effectively what he was saying).

Another thing … it’s been reported on Nine News tonight that “anyone” who has been Victoria in the last 2 weeks must self isolate for 14 days. Wonder if this will prevent some games from going ahead in NSW this weekend?

But he is essentially a god around here given what he has done for the NRL. The local rag near me had a poster of him in a recent issue - I can’t see anyone doing that for Gill any time soon.

Of course he will be plumping for the NRL. Same as what Eddie does for Collingwood and the AFL.

Only because Nine & News Corp have become sycophantic cheerleaders for him. They provide virtually no objective coverage of his actions/decisions and go after anyone who even dares to criticize him. It’s frankly disgraceful behaviour and I feel sorry for the next CEO who’ll be CEO in name only

For all it’s flaws (and there are many of them), the ‘AFL media’ wouldn’t put any leader on such a pedestal

They said exactly that on Footy Classified as well. I have heard from multiple sources that QLD ratings are up on normal.

He isn’t even the CEO all he is, is the chairman of the commission

Same way Richard Goyder is the chairman of the AFL commission

I know. But Todd Greenberg left, and he sort of picked up the slack. Essentially everything was pushed by him.

Where do you think the Grand Final should be held

  • Sydney Cricket Ground
  • ANZ Stadium
  • Optus Stadium
  • Leave it at the MCG
  • Elsewhere
  • Declare the season null and void and end it now
  • Hold it in a hotel with sex-mad security guards

Waverley Park.

The Gabba.

Kardinia Park, but only if Geelong doesn’t make the Grand Final. The ultimate torture.

There are a lot of options to choose but I may want to choose Metricon Stadium (Gold coast) or Giants stadium (WEstern sydney) over GMHBA stadium, geelong.

Now now

Hearing rumours that Geelong could become a hub in the next round of travels. Good for the community, good for the game.
