MCG might need an ark tonight! 7mm of rain has fallen in the inner-city since 5:30pm, 6mm in just 30min after 6pm!
The AFL has conceded Carlton shouldâve been given a free kick when Hawthorn had 19 players on the field last night.

Instead, the League has today handed the Hawks a warning.

The umpiring has again been very questionable this season, how did something like that get missed?
Northern Territory steps up bid for 20th team as AFL puts full focus on Tasmania launch
The Northern Territoryâs push for an AFL team has continued with the release of a plan for 10 potential sites for a new stadium in Darwin.
The AFLNT first revealed plans to build a multi-purpose stadium in December 2020 with a pricetag of $300 million, pencilling in the proposed location at the intersection of Garramilla Boulevard and McMinn St.
That site remains option A, but nine more potential locations have been earmarked including the Federal Tank Farm, the Sea Swift Freight Yard, the Esplanade, the Waterfront, Gardens Oval and One Mile Dam, with preferred options being walkable from the city centre.
Darwin is just too small to accommodate a team.
It wonât be viable. Better off going to Canberra
Why does size matter?
They arenât going to waste money on a stadium size the AFL requires if thereâs nobody there to go to it.
Move the Giants there
Iâm not convinced we need more teams
I agree about the stadium. But I donât think that means Darwin canât accomodate a team.
Where would they play?
Where do Gold Coast play when they play there every year?
Dunno but I think the main point still stands.
Would there be a large enough group of fans there? Otherwise thereâs just no point.
Marrara Oval holds 12,500. I donât think crowds are really that big of a deal as long as the team could get major sponsors (in the NT that wouldnât be too hard) and sell memberships (again look at Tasmania)
AFL is the most followed sport in the NT.
As long as they can get people in there then Iâm all for it.
I believe there should be at least one team representing each state and territory for it to be a truely national game so letâs get it done then.
Gold Coast v Geelong was sold out last year there.
Personally I wouldnât expand to the NT I would go to Newcastle.
I just said itâs not viable for the AFL.
The money just isnât there support a team.
I wouldnât say the money isnât there. Itâs a very strong economy, especially for a state with only 250,000. Mining and petroleum is huge in the Northern Territory.
Itâs not there. And the population is not centralised to one area.
Darwinâs population is only 130k. People from Alice Springs are not going to travel regularly to see a game up north.
Canberra (ACT) has a population of 600k.
But again why does population matter? If they can get the sponsors and sell memberships (which they will) it doesnât.
Why canât they just do what Tasmania is planning to do and have a few games in Alice Springs?
I agree - obviously the AFL will likely have a demand of a new stadium, though wouldnât imagine they would want one of the same size as Hobart.
