On 7News Adelaide, it’s being reported that the idea contingency plan for the Brisbane-Geelong clash is for it to be played in Round 3 where both teams have a bye. It’s also been confirmed that the idea of them playing it on Thursday in Melbourne, and then playing their 2nd meeting in Brisbane later in the season, has been ruled out. Decision may be made tomorrow morning at the AFL Commissioners meeting in Sydney - AFL wants to hold out for as long as possible, while clubs want an answer by tomorrow since Geelong players will start flying up in the afternoon.
the game just can’t go on, it should just be rescheduled for round three
Common sense has to prevail
Why postponed? Can’t it just be moved to another city?
I guess that would cause an issue with sponsors, members and contracts with stadiums? But I guess they could swap the round 16 game. I’m just not sure if the MCG or Marvel are ready.
Brisbane-Geelong: Postponed, most likely until Round 3
Gold Coast-Essendon: Postponed, likely until ‘much later in the season’.
Ticket holders will be contacted.
Gold Coast have byes in Round 2 and 14, Essendon have byes in Round 4 and 16.
AFL statement
The background is Sydney’s Luna Park, where the 2025 season will be launched tonight.
Round 0 is basically practice matches anyway before the real season commences the following week.
Except it is for premiership points so nothing like a practice match…

How is a pundit doing a countdown of his top players in the game TV news material? Online content, sure - not sure about TV.
Because he’s one of Seven’s big signings.
Countdowns aren’t news!
Remember, this is the same network that though that horoscopes and satire were news
no argument from me!
