That’s a humble acknowledgement and it should be commanded.

Additional note: The xScore was 97-86 in Fremantle’s favor. Let that sink in. How pathetic can a loss be? How magnificent can 3 minutes be?

If there was any further doubt as to whether the Brisbane Lions are the greatest team to ever three-peat not once, but twice, then they were well and truly extinguished today.

Both their 2001-03 and 2024-26 three-peats are more impressive than how Geelong (2007, 2009 and 2011), Hawthorn (2013-15) and Richmond (2017, 19-20) achieved their respective premiership dynasties this century.

While the first saw them defeat two big Victorian clubs (Essendon in 2001 and Collingwood in 2002-03) at the MCG to achieve their hat-trick, the second came against clubs that don’t play at the MCG as regularly as the clubs they beat for their first hat-trick.

I think it’s great for the AFL when the Brisbane Lions are flourishing on the field. The next challenge will be not only to try and emulate the great Collingwood side of 1927-30, but also remain consistent for as long as they can - I say this because in the immediate years following the Lions’ early-00s dynasty they dramatically fell down the ladder (they finished the 2005 season suffering a record 139-point defeat to St Kilda) and, save for a finals appearance in 2009, wouldn’t become contenders again until this decade.

Similarly, Hawthorn had a few rough couple of years after their 2013-15 dynasty, but have rebuilt their list under Sam Mitchell and will be flag contenders again this decade. It’s also what Richmond is going through as well, though its rebuild has been hampered by injuries.

An outstanding contest today, from go to whoa. One of the best Grand Finals I’ve seen. It had just about everything.

The Brisbane Lions are without a doubt the greatest team of all time, certainly this millennium. Not just one, but two back-to-back-to-back premierships and four GF appearances in a row both those times this century within the space of 25 years. Easily eclipsing the likes of Hawthorn (also with a three-peat), Geelong and Sydney’s GF appearances and wins.

Fremantle I thought were arguably the slightly better team and perhaps performed most consistently across the game. However Brisbane were able to win some key moments, notably the last 5min of play and had more stars contribute across the board, as well as depth of GF experience vs a few players and virtually no GF team experience for the Dockers.

It just goes to show, no matter what has transpired so far, never lose hope and believe, right down to the final siren. The best can and will always find a way.

Logan Morris and the Ashcrofts will be superstars, if they aren’t already suitable candidates for such a title, to name a few.

Chris Fagan, just sublime, almost becoming peerless. And I think he will hang up his hat in coming days or weeks, go out on a high. Everybody in the industry and wider public has such love and admiration for him too.

As for Wharfie Time? See you later I suspect :joy: :grimacing:

Kylie Minogue? I was actually in the minority. While I thought overall it was a fantastic ‘show’ and the visuals were great, the actual music and especially her singing IMO left much to be desired, various factors, unless that wasn’t the core focus. But she is a singer first and foremost after all, so whatever the brief was

Season 2026 goodnight and let’s breathe for 6 months.

Hope everyone had a good day!

I hope next year, there will be another winner on the trophy — we’ve had enough of Brisbane Lions. Time for other teams to get better

It was a grand final for the first time as a neutral today did not care who won as a Pies supporter

What a comeback from Brisbane. Still in shock at the result. Will Ashcroft was my Norm Smith pick

The pre-match entertainment and Brisbane coincidence continues

2023 KISS in black and white with black and white performers - Brisbane lost
2024 Katy Perry performed “Roar” - Brisbane won
2025 Snoop Dogg is Snoop Lion - Brisbane won
2026 Kylie Minogue “On A Night Like This” - Brisbane won

October 2 2027 is the Grand Final next year and guess who played an October 2 Grand Final 17 years ago?

Now that I’ve slept on what was the craziest grand final finish I can recall, I wonder what comes of it for Freo after this? That is the most shattering of losses a club could have when you’ve seemingly got one hand on the cup. Will it be fuel for the fire for their campaign next year, or does it demoralise the group entirely?

I do genuinely feel for you Freo fans, it’s just an awful feeling right now.

Kylie taking home a reported $3million for a 20 minute performance - $150,000 a minute. Not bad for a days work.

Even in the AAMI match ball ad.

Money well spent by the AFL - V’landys should take note.

It would have been way more than a day’s work. She didn’t just rock up and do 20 minutes.

It would have been weeks of planning the arrangement of songs and creating the dance routines, rehearsals with the dancers and other performers, creating costumes and special effects, doing publicity for the event.

And I wonder if appearing in the AAMI/AFL ad was probably part of that $3million payment.

I’ve always wondered though, does Kylie have to pay for the cost of production eg. cost of set, pay the dancers etc out of that $3 mil, so she might end up with quite a bit less than that? (including paying tax). If not, then it might have cost the AFL more like $4 mil, maybe more.

It has been said before that they do get a budget for it but then a lot of performers who do these events end up wanting to do a spectacular show and use their own money to pay for extras.

Some performers at the Superbowl have said that they spent more than fee, for staging and to bring in other performers. They figure that they can make it back through music sales and boosting ticket sales for future concerts.

The AFL now do pre show entertainment well. They were criticised for their selection years ago but recently (last 5 years or so) they have spent big $$$.

I dont have a problem with that.

True, but Eddie’s “woe is us” bleating while Collingwood president means most people know about their lack of travel and less about others.

So what?

Will Ashcroft’s clearance was Freo’s Milne bounce moment. The ball goes to Serong, Freo can score to force the first-ever extra time grand final or a goal to win after the siren. It is one of those sliding doors moments in grand final history. Played the game of his life in the last 4 minutes at the age of just 22!

Too many missed chances. That Treacy miss ended up killing them. There were other set-shot behinds but that stood out.

By all accounts, Fremantle won the game. Or at least they should have. Wharfie Time was the start of the collapse. That’s the only reason.

A lot of what-ifs that could be thrown around.
