Are there any foreign language broadcasts still done?

Yes, last night’s Melbourne-Adelaide match was broadcast in Spanish on NEMBC (National Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasters’ Council) Media according to AFLW website.

There were also a couple of AFL matches this year that were broadcast in a foreign language.

According to Jon Anderson in the Sunday Herald Sun, Luca Gonano (3AW Breakfast producer) will head up 3AW Football in 2023 after Craig Moore who was previously in the role was made redundant.

There will be a focus on news and clearly-defined calling roles. Sam McClure has made a favourable impression since becoming host of Wide World of Sports and is expected to be heard more. A lively boundary rider may also be in the mix, as is a return to the days of a qualified medico such as Dr Peter Larkins giving updates.

I assume this was a studio call, Leigh Montagna lead caller with Kate McCarthy alongside.

Good to read Michael Price back on air. He was a great broadcaster on Triple M and later, Fairfax radio Brisbane.

Not sure if Huddo to 3AW has been confirmed yet but Jimmy Bartel on breakfast seems sure that it’s confirmed now.

He’ll be one of the main callers on 3AW Football this year according to Jimmy.

Jimmy was responding to an article in today’s Herald Sun in which Huddo explained why he switched from SEN to 3AW. Huddo, who will call Friday night matches for 3AW this season, said he “was flattered that they (3AW) wanted me to come back and I felt like it was a good time to go back”.

According to Scott Gullan in the Herald Sun, AFLW players Libby Birch and Abbie McKay will join 3AW Football as boundary riders for Friday and Saturday nights respectively this season. All other commentary teams remain unchanged with the exception of Anthony Hudson calling Friday nights which was previously announced (meaning Tim Lane moves to Sundays in addition to Saturday afternoons).

So what is happening to Jaq Reid?

This will be Abbie McKay’s first media role, while Libby Birch has been a semi-regular guest on The W Show (produced by AFL Media) during the women’s season.

I think Jacqui Reid is staying put and will be boundary rider for Saturday afternoon matches.
