1170 was meant to take the SEN call (Whateley, Hudson, Lyon, Cornes), 2SM and 2UE were both taking the AFL Nation call (Heverin, Russell, Wallace)

It’s the first AFL Grand Final for all but Brad Sewell.
The ABC was the only radio station to have commentators at the ground, I believe the rest were calling the match off the tube.

Yes, just the ABC and 7.

Stations in Victoria and SA will reduce their AFL broadcast to one game per weekend while the locally produced K Rock football will continue in Geelong as will their significant sponsorship of the Geelong Cats.

AFL fans in regional Victoria (who usually listen to AFL Nation through their Grant stations) won’t be happy with the change. No doubt they will switch to their local Triple M or ABC stations for their weekly dose of footy from next year.

Herald Sun reports today that Gerard Healy has quietly left 3AW to join SEN as an expert commentator for the latter’s AFL coverage. Healy will still be heard on 3AW as co-host of Sportsday Victoria next year.

Dwayno must’ve told him all about it. You call, you get on SEN

Chris Judd has quit Triple M’s commentary team, citing conflict of interest with his role as Carlton footing director. He won’t be heard on the station’s Friday night coverage from next year.

SEN 1116 in Melbourne and SEN SA will broadcast the 2020 AFL Draft live at 7pm AEDT tonight.

Word has it, SEN pulled the pin on live coverage of the draft around 10:20pm, then went to pre-recorded content.

The actual draft went to almost 11:30pm.

Seems crazy to dedicate all that time talking up the Draft (including trade week radio) to pull the pin on it before it was anywhere near complete - just amateur hour there at SEN!

Maybe SEN didn’t expect the draft to go way overtime?

Valid, although official broadcasters would get a blow-by-blow timing schedule from AFL HQ.

That said, if you expected it to finish by 10pm, wouldn’t you have a few hours scheduled afterwards for instant fan reaction - like the good old days of Finey’s final siren?

AFL Nation coverage for the opening round of the 2021 season

Looks like AFL Nation will have a few debutants this year (Kate Meade from Ace Radio, Miles Pfitzner from SEN SA, Andrew Browne from NIRS).

Triple M coverage for Round 1

AFLnation is slim pickings on Saturdays and Sundays eh. You can see the cost cutting measures right in front of your eyes.

At least it looks like Crucnh time goes back to 11am to 1pm, be interesting to see who is on it (my guess is Gerrard, Andy, Bob and Sam (Hargraves). Nice and cheap.

It’s really light on generally. Most games having only 1 analyst and all bar 1 game having no boundary rider are the most glaring things

Triple M Perth taking plenty of games. Will be a huge change after just two games the past few years on Mix 94.5.
