Stephen would be jumping in joy if 10 get the rights back.
If 10 has the rights it mean no more 3:20 games for Sunday or even Anzac Day or queenâs birthday because 10 doesnât have news at 6pm. That would be a bonus because I donât think fans like the 3:20 games
Wouldnât be an issue, the news would air at 6pm just like it did on most Saturdays when 10 had the rights.
Iâm sure the price would increase, but P+ is currently $15 and $16/ month cheaper than Stan Sport HD and Kayo respectively, which would help out a lot of fans too.
This is only the first chapter but itâs encouraging seeing them serious about getting the AFL back.
Makes a lot of sense too to boost their News ratings and the Projectâs.
The games will be shifted to 2.30pm to accomodate 10 News First. 10 will definitely want a Saturday arvo game as a lead-in to itâs evening news
2011 news revolution in 2025?!
It will be important to know if the 3-4 AFL games on 10 will also stream for free on 10play. If not, it is no different to 10âs existing broadcast arrangements with A-League.
One of the complaints from fans in regards to the existing AFL rights deal has been that Seven is unable to stream live any of its matches until the Grand Final. So the next deal should have a provision that FTA matches will also be streamed live for free.
10 have shown a willingness to move itâs news to different times to fit sporting schedules.
Iâd say it would. Theyâd be stupid not to.
Why would Ch10 need to move their news when 2.20pm is the traditional afternoon footy time slot anyway. Their news goes for an hour and a half anyway so they wouldnât want that to start too late for Saturday night matches
10âs Saturday news is 1 hour. Iâm sure there wouldnât be a problem with a 6pm one hour news in Melbourne and 5.30 for Adelaide.
But why wouldnât they opt to keep the 5pm time slot so that Saturday and Sunday Arvo matches are played at a traditional time
This news is what we were expecting and makes sense for the global strategy of Paramount and what they want to do. Currently the AFL getting $946m per season. So P+/10 need to go something like 1.2-1.3 billion a season to try and get it over the line. Paramount Global will see this as an NFL type scenario and the money they can generate from this. The great thing is 10 have the global company to stump up the bulk of the cash for the deal.
The promising thing is having the rights all in one place and a much better viewer experience that the current 7/Fox disaster.
$946 mil total was for two years 2023-24.
$473 mil per year.
Oh combined? Not each year.
Ok so offer 650m per year to ensure you get these rights. They are going to have to offer way above Fox/7 to get them. $1 more wonât cut it. You need to force the AFL to move broadcasters.
Theyâll probably also include international rights where P+ is/will one day be. Maybe even games (GF) on linear channels (cable) too.
If Paramount are genuinely serious and offer a massive amount of money that canât be matched then it may mean that 7,9 and Fox will have to band together because frankly, 10/Paramount donât deserve the rights.
They donât have any experience covering a major Sport except for the A League that has rated terribly and many people have complained about technical problems on Paramount. The network as a whole is a distant third in the ratings and unlike 9, they donât have any AFL related programming and havenât since 2013.
They covered AFL very ably for ten years
