AFL broadcast rights 2025-2031

It’s supposedly only the first 8 rounds of the season. I was confused when I heard him say that as it doesn’t sync up with 7’s last 8 rounds of SNF.

A new Super Saturday will see Fox Footy air every Saturday match exclusively through the opening eight rounds of the season.

From that Fox Sports link a few posts ago

Streaming is the way of the future. AFL still thinks we are in the past. By the time the rights end, most sports around the world will be on streaming.

The NFL has one game a week exclusively on Amazon Prime in the US and MLB signed a deal with Apple. MLS will be on Apple next year. Time for the AFL to move along with the times

I heard Gill say that Super Saturday is first 8 rounds but it didn’t match up with what he said about 7, so I assumed I missheard it

Foxtel offers both satellite feeds and streaming. Why would a provider that offers only streaming be better?

Same, I just assumed he mis-spoke, and maybe he did.

77 FTA games on 7, 39% of games during the regular season

Both things are possible.

First 8 Rounds: All Saturday games on Foxtel
Rounds 9-15: Some Saturday games on Seven but not every week (e.g. Dreamtime game)
Last 8 Rounds: One Saturday game per week is on Seven

Nine papers reporting that it was 10’s bid that saw the record deal break through the $600m a year barrier.

Foxtel and Seven were forced to pay significantly more than anyone imagined due to Channel Ten and Paramount’s eye-watering bid of $6 billion over 10 years.

So did I understand that right, fox still don’t have access to show the GF live on streaming or fox.

So they just paid overs for a deal that requires them to find extra commentators etc.

Um… some say, you only get one ALAN BOND…

Foxtel and Seven were forced to pay significantly more than anyone imagined due to Channel Ten and Paramount’s eye-watering bid of $6 billion over 10 years .

Channel 9 are sending TEN a gift basket. They just won the Olympics and any other sport they want now.

Gil claims none of the other bidders reached the same monetary value in cash/contra than this new deal.

If that’s the case then nine and paramount have themselves to blame. You can only take what Gil says at face value but could be lying.

The assertion that everyone has blanket access to game is a blatant lie.

Yeah he specifically mentioned Dreamtime and if ANZAC day fell on a Saturday so could be that, but i thought it was more if those things happened in the first 8 rounds.

Well… They certainly wanted it more than we thought :face_with_peeking_eye:

That’s a shame it didn’t come to be. But at least this new deal doesn’t appear to be as bad as speculated.

Seven and Fox have just had their second one.

Was the first Cricket?

I second this, both is better.

Details of the deal include:

• Games will be broadcast live and free nationally on the Seven Network and 7Plus on Thursday nights, Friday nights, selected Saturday nights, Sunday afternoons.
• Seven will also have marquee matches, the Brownlow medal, all AFL finals, and the AFL grand final.
• All marquee matches will be live and free on Seven – Dreamtime, Anzac eve, Anzac Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, and Queen’s Birthday, plus at least three additional marquee matches such as the season opener.
• Foxtel and Kayo will broadcast every single AFL / AFLW home and away match, every AFL / AFLW final (excluding the grand final) and all pre-season matches with their own Fox commentary teams.
• Foxtel and Kayo will also broadcast all AFL events including the AFL draft and awards nights, excluding the Brownlow.
• Foxtel and Kayo will have a Super Saturday in the first eight rounds of each AFL season, broadcasting exclusively live all games in all time slots, with the exception of Anzac eve, Anzac Day, and Dreamtime if they were to fall on a Saturday.
• Outside Victoria, matches involving the local team will be broadcast live in the local market on the Seven Network and 7Plus digital, except for selected matches on holdbacks.
• At least 30 AFLW home and away games, AFLW finals, and the AFLW grand final will be live and free on the Seven Network and 7Plus digital.

Also mentioned that Fox to get clean feed and have their own graphics and commentators.

Well if that’s to believe, paramount did try and that’s a huge deal. This looks like why it went for 7 years. But it would seem the AFL just wanted the same broadcasters and went back to them for more money. Not sure if the maths equates to that.

Let’s see if paramount can use it for the cricket, Olympics and football world cups.

One thing that needs to be dealt with is the anti-siphoning… foxtel should be excluded from first round negotiations and only be able to sub license listed games and events. That would be much more preferable.

that’s what I’m saying. it’s basically the same as what is currently happening with

  • a positive being that 7+ added
  • a negative being NSW & QLD being given delayed games of FTA.
  • Also, Fox getting their own commentary for ALL games

To be honest I think this deal isn’t as bad as first thought. For NSW and QLD I think viewers won’t care much as NRL is bigger in those 2 states so less Saturday games wouldn’t be noticed as much in NSW and QLD games are on 7mate and movies are on the main channel.
