From News Corp - but the article is all āAccording to The Ageā - youād think they could find out for themselves!
Also reported in The Australian.
Reported news conference at 3pm.
Iād laugh if the headline this arvo is āHistoric deal made with Nine Networkā
So the question to nine is, do they continue with the footy shows etc on the network, or pull up stumps with those shows? 9 more years with the current hosts, why should nine bother?
Kevin Perry reporting 4.5 bill over 7 years
Nine have been running its footy shows since the 1990s without holding the TV rights for all but a five year period. If the shows rate and/or are profitable for the network, why would they not continue?
Iād hope they donāt, but fully understand if they do.
Depends on how well they rate and whether the money is worth it.
642m per year??? Wow
$640m a year. Wow
The majority of the increase is being paid by Foxtel.
Thatās $2.3m per game! holly Molly thats a crazy figure to show AFL!
Iām just hoping my membership will lead to a cheaper Kayo subscription. Sending close to $750 to watch football every year is just way too much.
Without the AFL rights Foxtel basically would have closed down.
Iām just hoping that Foxtel forking out so much $$$ wonāt leave them weak for other shows . and leave foxtel as a sport streaming service and thatās it
if you went to every game each week - what would that cost?
Itās not physically possible to go to every game. Some games overlap and there is significant travel time between states. But for access to all Victorian games I think an AFL membership costs around $500.
Herald Sun reporting that itās 3.85 bill cash and contra. 2025-2030. 6 year deal
It is inevitable that the increase in rights fees that fans, as well as hotels and restaurants that show the matches live, will have to pay more to subscribe to Foxtel and/or Kayo. Given the current cost of living situation it is not a good look.
Foxtel still has the rights to NRL, F1, netball and cricket, and also has program deals with Warner Bros/HBO. It wonāt close down that easily.
