Reckon it’ll stay the same amount as now (ie; 3 & 1/2 games a round with the 1/2 consisting of special public holiday games and the games currently set aside for Thursday nights in another timeslot).
The benefit of 10/P+ or 9/Stan is that each market could be given their own games first preference with all production done centrally.
It’s a massive waste having two sets of TV broadcasts, for example Fox have three people covering the Swans v Pies game and all together over a 3.5 hour broadcast they do maybe 30-45min screen time.
Central production could allow for each state to have a set commentary team (no need to FIFO), with VIC needing two.
David you’re forgetting that a lot of people cannot afford a $40 subscription service. The danger of this is it will only weaken the AFL product in the long run. Hence what we’re now seeing with the Cricket.
That’s why it’s important to still offer a free service.
The main Kayo downside is all the stuff they could do but hold back to protect the main Foxtel. 4K streaming would be perfectly possible - yet they keep that Foxtel only to try and have some reason to keep people.
If only 4 games on Saturday, I’d hope they’d find a way to stagger them more evenly (ie 1.10pm, 3.10pm, 5.10pm and 7.10pm).
Sunday would be the same but 3 games (1.10pm, 3.10pm, 5.10pm)
The current issue with the 3 games on Saturday crammed back to back on 504 is that you get no pre/post analysis like you do on say a Thursday/Friday night.
Take that Saturday schedule above
Channel 503
12.30pm: Early Arvo Pre-Game 1.10pm: Early Arvo Game
4.10pm: Early Arvo Post-Game
4.30pm: Twilight Pre-Game 5.10pm: Twilight Game
8.10pm: Twilight Saturday Post-Game
8.30pm: Golf replays
Channel 504
11am: Saturday Crunchtime (SEN/Fox co-production - dreaming I know)
12.30pm: Early Pre-Game (Simulcast with 503) 1.10pm: Early Arvo Game (First Half Simulcast with 503)
2.30pm: Late Arvo Pre-Game 3.10pm: Late Arvo Game
6.10pm: Late Arvo Post-Game
6.30pm: Evening Pre-Game 7.10pm: Evening Game
10.10pm: Saturday Stretch
11pm: AFL replays
These only exist because Fox use the traditional linear broadcast method - streaming wont deliver the second point (because there is no real need), whether they deliver the first one will be something to watch but given there is less of a need to fill a schedule we may see less of these programs moving forward
Me too, I don’t like the overlapping of 2 full Saturday night games, so that’s why I thought there might only be 1 Saturday night game if Thursday is permanent
Does this actually happen anymore on Saturdays and Sundays? Thought it was more a half hour preview before the first match, then get through all the matches with the old-school 10 minute preview/ wrap up and straight after the final match throw to the comedy shows. It is hard to tell though with Kayo if that’s actually what’s occurring.
Seven give just as, if not more, extensive pre match (maybe not thursdays as much) and post game (Seven much better on Saturday nights) coverage for their night matches as Fox does. Their Sunday afternoon stuff is a joke though.
