AFL (2016-2024)

Nothing better than seeing @ElCapitanCrankys team lose and waiting for his dummy spat. But in all seriousness a great game and was sure Buddy was going to beat us all on his own.

He’s so overrated. And currently underperforming.

You know you’re not a genuine top eight side when you lose to Port.

:joy: this is funny.

I think people are a bit harsh on port Adelaide. Yes they lost to 4 top 8 sides. But only 2 of those they got blown away. Geelong and bulldogs they were very much in the game. Also port Adelaide have had 8 of their best 22 out, but this gets ignored time and time again. I think they have been unbelievable to be in the top 4 with as many injuries as they have had. I would like to see Geelong, bulldogs or brisbane still be there without their leading goal scorer, an all Australian younger, best veteran and best key defender out.

If they can manage to get into the top 4 with these injuries and get these players back at the end of the season they are going to be hard to beat come finals.

Here are some of the outs recently:
Hamish Hartlett
Robbie Gray
Zach butters
Xavier Duursma
Tom clurey
Lachie Jones
orazio fantasia
Tom Rockliff

Then they had Scott Lycett out recently, Todd Marshall, Dan Houston, Ryan Burton and Sam Powell Pepper.

They also have a lot of their second tier players out that would have been playing with injuries like Jackson Mead.

I’m not sure the Swans necessarily deserved the win - a good game nonetheless though.

Roos players, coaches and officials have been sent for COVID-19 tests and told to isolate on Sunday morning after they were at Melbourne Airport on Saturday morning - now classified a Tier 2 exposure site.

The Roos boarded a chartered flight to Hobart for their win over Gold Coast at the same time a positive case was at the airport’s Terminal 3 and will need to return negative tests before they can re-enter the community.

UPDATE: Ben Cameron, ABC’s sports commentator based in Perth, had tweeted that crowds and staff were being turned away from Optus Stadium ahead of West Coast v Western Bulldogs this afternoon. Bulldogs players had been in quarantine in Perth since arriving last Sunday, only allowed to go outside for training.

Seven News Perth’s Ryan Daniels tweeted that the game is expected to go ahead without crowds, due to a COVID case in city’s northern suburbs.

Seven News Melbourne’s Tom Browne reports this evening the AFL is considering whether to move all eight non-Victorian teams to Victoria, due to rapidly developing COVID situation in QLD, NSW, NT and WA and associated state border closures.

I’ll expand on my ‘lol’ from last time something similar happened, but gee it feels like 2021 is bizzaro-world 2020 - with things moving from other states into Vic because of Covid outbreaks.

Would hope there’s regional stadiums used and some games played in Tasmania still if that happens. It’s cool that GMHBA Stadium will host a neutral match next week, and it’d be great to see Mars Stadium and others also utilised.

Noticed that the 4 Giants fans didn’t complain about playing a home game at the MCG - a lesson for Cats fans perhaps?

What other stadiums besides GMHBA and Mars have the facilities to host AFL games in Victoria?

There’s been pre-season games at a handful of other ovals - Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo and stadiums in Morwell and Moe, though I suppose the bar might be higher for regular season matches.

Albury might be an option as well given the border bubble. And though not regional, Ikon Park would be suitable too.

I’d assume they’d need to use some extra grounds just to protect the surface at the MCG and Ethiad (especially).

Morwell, Shepparton, Corio, Queen Elizabeth Oval, Moe,

In Melbourne- Ikon Park

They could possibly use some of the VFL venues such as Port Melbourne

I am just wondering if they are all up to AFL standard and have the facilities. I think the 4 - Mars, Marvel, MCG and gmhba will probably be enough anyway. But perhaps it would be good to have one other.

1 Game at Mars
2 game at gmhba
2 games at MCG
2 games at Marvel
1 game at Adelaide Oval
1 somewhere else.

The surfaces were ok at the Gabba and Metricon last year.

Take advantage of it while you can. Although I have been to a few west coast games in Geelong and they do not play that ground well.

I’ll be interested to see what sort of a crowd games with 2 interstate teams get in VIC

Yeh. And not only Vic, but Geelong!

Well I’ll be there haha.

Funny how the tables turn, this time last year it was the other way around with Victorian based teams relocating.
