AFL (2016-2024)

lol, get effed mate. We should be allowed to choose where our home games are played. Why does north get to choose to play 4 in tassie and 7 in melbourne, but we don’t get the same choice to play 11 in Geelong?

If interstate clubs are here a month and crowds are still capped hopefully they can move the Geelong v Richmond game to Geelong. They should be entitled to play all 11 home games in Geelong

That is a great idea.

Marvel/MCG can realistically hold 5 games a week assuming fri/2sat/2sun. 6 if you include Thursday nights.

If all 9 games had to be in Melbourne/Victoria, then you could use Geelong and Ballarat on Saturdays and Sundays to fill it out (either 2 in each, or 2 in one, 1 in one)

Think its most realistic that any interstate v interstate game gets moved first if necessary (like Sydney v WCE), and that Geelong v Richmond game should be moved now.

Matches involving Swans and Lions should attract decent crowds in Victoria because they have established fanbases here (from their days in South Melbourne and Fitzroy respectively).

If all 8 interstate teams are to play in Victoria I think the breakdown will be:
2 at MCG
3 at Marvel Stadium
2 at GMHBA Stadium
2 at Mars Stadium

Do you think their will be restrictions on Victorian clubs playing on SA though?

No Vic clubs, but potentially QLD/NSW/WA clubs.

Why not vic clubs? Next week port Adelaide have melbourne at home? Why wouldn’t they be able to play at Adelaide oval if the borders between the two states are open?

No issue with that.

In round 18, Saints play Port in Melbourne and Crows play Eagles in SA. So that Crows game could need to be moved to VIC if SA won’t let the Eagles in, but I doubt the Saints would want to move their home game out of VIC at the same time.

The stadiums in Victoria/Tasmania would be:

MCG (x2)
Marvel Stadium (x2)
GMHBA Stadium
Mars Stadium
IKON Park
UTAS Stadium
Blundstone Arena

If SA were to allow teams in after 2 weeks out of hotspots, then the Adelaide Oval would host two games, taking from IKON and Mars.

Play in Tas? Hang on, aren’t the Roos in isolation after their flight back?

Because of Melbourne Airport, not Tassie.

North Melbourne players, coaches and staff have been forced into isolation after Terminal 3 at the Melbourne Airport was listed as a COVID-19 exposure site.

The airport terminal was listed as a Tier 2 exposure site after a Virgin Australia cabin crew member completed five flights interstate while unknowingly infectious with COVID-19.

I really do hope Tasmania can play a big part in the ‘hub’ model in Victoria. It will be a really interesting 24 hours.

The WA Government imposed a COVID lockdown for Perth and Peel region for at least four days from midnight last night. It’s hard to see Fremantle-Carlton to be held at Optus Stadium this weekend even without crowds.

UPDATE 1: Fremantle players will fly to Melbourne this afternoon on charter flight, the same day as West Coast players.

UPDATE 2: AFL website is reporting that Lions and Suns players and coaching staff will board a charter flight to Melbourne this afternoon. The decision to move the teams out of Queensland was made before the state government announced a three-day lockdown for SEQ plus Townsville, Palm Island and Magnetic Island.

Does anyone know how to get tickets for this weekends games in Melbourne? I cannot for the life of me find anything anywhere!

Got an email from MFC, tickets for Saturday’s match on sale at 1pm today for the premium members window. Guess public later in the week. That said, have you seen the weather forecast for the weekend? Looks horrid.

Thanks!

True true I just wouldn’t mind catching the West Coast game in Geelong on Sunday.

Given everything that has happened tickets aren’t on sale yet. Things still need to be finalised first

Unlikely to happen, the old Pratt/Hawthorn stand is currently being demolished.

Is it members only still?

I just got an email from the club -

For those of you in Melbourne or Geelong or surrounds, we look forward to seeing as many West Coast Eagles fans as possible at the match – the boys will need your support! Details surrounding ticketing arrangements for GMHBA Stadium will be confirmed later this week.
