I noticed it this morning with 1566 Gympie now dominant into Coffs Harbour. End of an era.
Here’s the final hour of transmission from 11pm until the transmitter was switched off.
Turns out transmission was on a bit longer than I first estimated, went right through to 11:59pm (cut off just before the midnight news).
Well done, ACE. The more AM to FM conversions, the better.
I wonder when ARN will convert 2nm to FM in Muswellbrook.
Looking forward to 3ha conversion
John Farnham’s “Chain Reaction” the final song to be heard on 1566 kHz in Wangaratta. 3NE was originally on 1600 kHz when it began in the early 1950s until the 1978 9 kHz separation on AM when it moved to 1566. It swapped frequencies with 3WL (ABC Warrnambool) which was originally on 1570 kHz and at the same time moved to its current frequency of 1602 kHz. Farewell 3NE.
If I was Star 92.1’s Music Director I should have put Captain Matchbox and the Whoopee Band’s “Wangaratta Wahine” as the final song on 3NE. ![]()
Better than N Sync’s “Bye Bye Bye”… anything is really.
They probably can’t afford it right now for well publicised reasons, lol.
But then the main driver of the conversions are also financial, with FM cheaper to operate and is more accessible than AM, so you could also say they can’t afford NOT to convert.
Why not Steam’s Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye?
It would actually save them money on transmission costs.
don’t do anything to mess with 4BH.
Star fm 92.1 Pip Enscoe listed as regular weekend afternoon announcer on website.
If it weren’t for Ian Crockett, some of Australia’s most successful radio talent would not be on air today.
This week, our industry is mourning the loss of a true legend and beloved character – the man affectionately known to all who worked with him as ‘Crockie’ – following his death at the age of 86.
Crockie was the lifeblood of Wangaratta’s 1566 3NE, which recently transitioned to the FM band and rebranded as STAR 92.1. Every square inch of that red brick building on Templeton Street, he knew like the back of his hand.
Just seventeen years old when he joined the station in January 1955, Crockie went on to spend his entire working life with North East Broadcasters – predominately as a technician but also as a fill-in announcer and later, station manager.
New logos for Deniliquin’s 2QN & Edge FM have popped up on RadioApp.
Doesn’t seem to be reflected on socials/website, nor any other regional Ace stations yet (besides Wangaratta).
A great choice to continue the 3MP logo. Much better than the Magic/Star/Edge logo.
Only checking again now, but after the folks at ACE Radio saw my post they updated the frequency list for MIXX FM Colac to better reflect their current frequencies. 92.7 FM Lorne finally removed.
Just drove past 3ha/Mixx building in Hamilton and there is a bit of exterior painting going on.
Wondering if the rebranding is coming soon
?
You would have to be right on the money. Expect the MIXX stations to sport Temu Hit Network branding just like Edge FM Wangaratta. All ACE Radio “Hit Music” stations will cop this rebrand.
Spotted on Star 92.1’s facebook page their street team are at the Shepparton Show today through Saturday, it seems they are very serious about entering the Shepp market and competing with the traditional SCA FM duopoly. I wish them good luck! I listened to them earlier in the week and spotted a few Shepparton businesses advertising on it.
