Vera - Season 13

image

From Sunday 7 April 8.30pm

3 episodes

DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) is down on the market after a trader is found dead following a suspected hit and run. Who would want this loveable rogue dead? Meanwhile, a familiar face is back on the scene.

DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) makes a return in the thirteenth series of Vera which is packed full of murderous intrigue across three exciting new episodes. Joe Ashworth (David Leon) makes a welcome return but is far from the sergeant Vera remembers. He’s been promoted to Detective Inspector and is firm that he’s not just a passenger in the Land Rover.

Also by her side, as are her intrepid and diligent team of detectives, Kenny (Jon Morrison), Mark (Riley Jones) and newcomer Steph (Rhiannon Clements). The vibrant, eager and brilliant Dr Paula Bennett (Sarah Kameela Impey) is also back on the scene and in the lab. Still excitable as ever and still referring to DCI Stanhope as “Vera” much to Vera’s annoyance.

In episode one, DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) is called to a quiet country lane where a young man has been found dead following a collision with a car. On closer inspection, it becomes clear that this is not an accident and is way more than a hit and run.

Vera discovers that our victim is a popular market trader so heads down to his pitch to start to put together an idea of who our man is and ascertain why anyone would want him dead. As the investigation gathers pace, Vera learns that our cheeky chappy was a complex character.

Antagonistic, arrogant and able to get what he wants, but did all of this come at a price? Secrets. Lies. Betrayal. Fractious relationships and intense rivalries but who would want our barrow boy buried.

Meanwhile, a familiar face from the past turns up but what is their agenda?

Compass – Goodbye My Dog

image

Sunday 7 April 6.30pm

The joys and deep love shared by humans and dogs means the time for saying good-bye can be tough. Compass follows three families’ final days with their beloved dogs and explores this very particular type of heartbreak.

We adore our dogs so much, that when we lose them, the grief can run deep. But mourning the loss of a pet, as opposed to a human, is still a disenfranchised grief in today’s society. Comments like “It’s only a dog” or “Just get another cat” can feel hurtful and isolating.

Compass follows three families’ final days with their beloved dogs and explores this very particular type of heartbreak.
