###Poldark Series 2

From Sunday 25 September at 8:40pm

It’s 1790 and there’s riot and revolution in the air. Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) is fighting for his freedom when George Warleggan (Jack Farthing) tries to have him hanged as a revolutionary. While Francis (Kyle Soller) and Elizabeth (Heida Reed) watch on in horror, can Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) save Ross from himself? Crippled by debts, Ross and Francis try to heal old wounds by joining forces in a new mine free of the Warleggans.
Ross and Elizabeth are thrown together by unforeseen circumstances, and Ross risks everything in a desperate smuggling venture. Meanwhile, the fate of the Poldarks is tied to Dr Dwight Enys (Luke Norris) and young heiress Caroline Penvenen (Gabriella Wilde) in unexpected ways.

The Poldark clan must learn to settle their differences once and for all, but at what cost?

In episode one, as George Warleggan builds his case against Ros, Pascoe forces Ross to prepare a will just in case, while Demelza hopes to gain an ally in their neighbour Ray Penvenen (John Nettles).

Francis fails in his efforts to reconcile with Ross, and Elizabeth attempts to negotiate a ceasefire between Ross and George, persuading George to offer Ross his help in influencing the court. However, Ross rejects the offer as the price of friendship with George is too high.

Francis is consumed with guilt for betraying Ross, while George offers to stand up for Ross in court if he’ll accept his friendship - but Ross refuses. And Demelza is prevented from speaking to the Justice.

Ross begins to realise that he may well be hanged tomorrow…

My memories of the original make me shudder at the thought of watching this.

These new episodes are a lot funnier than the original series in my opinion. It was a pleasant surprise that some 15 years after the original series ended they all returned for this revival .They have made three series (24 episodes) since the series was revived in 2014.

###Home Fires

From Saturday 15 October at 8:20pm

It’s August 1939, and Britain is on the brink of war, and the inhabitants of Great Paxford are preparing to fight Germany yet again.

Butcher’s son David Brindsley (Will Attenborough) gets the all clear from Dr Will Campbell (Ed Stoppard), and announces his intention to enlist as soon as he’s 17. His mother Miriam (Claire Price) is devastated, and tries to persuade Will to declare David medically unfit. But Will himself plans to rejoin the army, and his wife Erica (Frances Grey) is less that thrilled, as he served in WW1, and they now have two daughters, Kate (19) and Laura (18). Luckily for her Will fails the medical because of an irregularity in his breathing.

President of the WI, Joyce Cameron’s (Francesca Annis) deciding vote closes its doors, and Frances Barden (Samantha Bond) is furious and is determined to resurrect it - the blackberries on the hedgerows around the village can provide jam production - a way of raising money for the war effort and recruiting new members. Whilst picking, postman Spencer Wilson (Mike Noble) brings Claire Hillman’s (Daisy Badger) bike, which he has fixed, back to her and there is an obvious attraction.

Whilst Pat (Claire Rushbrook) is out with the WI, her husband Bob (Mark Bazeley), a writer and manipulative bully, is rushed to hospital with severe food poisoning. Pat thinks she has made him ill with bad fish, and when Bob returns from hospital he’s determined to make her life hell.

At a jam sale the next day, the women try to persuade local farmer Steph Farrow (Clare Calbraith) to join their new WI, but for her it’s a world away from her practical farming life. Blonde bombshell Jenny (Jodie Hamblet) arrives and whisks Spencer away for a drink, and Claire’s hopes are dashed.

As the women wait in the village hall for new members to turn up, Joyce arrives and rejoices at their failure. But just as they’re giving up, Steph appears with a trailer-load of women.

###Grand Designs: House of the Year

From Sunday 9 October at 7:40pm

Every year the Royal Institute of British Architects holds a competition to find the best new home in Britain and this time, Grand Designs is along for the ride. Presented by Kevin McCloud and guest reporters Zac Monro and Michelle Ogundehin, this four-part series explores some of Britain’s most contemporary and cutting edge homes, all of them nominees for the prestigious RIBA House of the Year Award 2015.

Kevin and the team meet the owners and architects who built them, reveal how these exemplary houses were constructed and uncover the secrets of designing and building a truly inspirational home. From a house built over a river in Northern Ireland to a remote, renovated mill in Scotland and a bold, wooden shed in the eerie landscape of Dungeness, we take you behind normally closed doors to see some of the best new architecture in the UK. In the final episode Kevin will reveal the overall winner of the RIBA House of the Year.

###National Treasure

From Thursday 13 October at 8:30pm

Paul Finchley (Robbie Coltrane) is one half of a much loved British comedy double act – a cherished household name with a career that spans several decades. He’s not quite as successful as he once was, but nevertheless he’s firmly engrained into the British national conscious.

As Paul settles into the twilight years of his life, a destructive allegation shakes him and his family to their core.

Accused of two counts of sexual assault, each some 20 years previous, Paul’s honour and celebrity face trial by jury, by press and by those closest to him, not least his wife, Marie (Julie Walters) and daughter, Dee (Andrea Risborough). And whether unconditionally or dutifully, those who love and care for Paul must stand by the man whose word they have chosen to believe.

###Doctor Foster

From Thursday 17 November at 8:30pm

Suranne Jones (Scott & Bailey, Coronation Stree,) stars as Doctor Gemma Foster in this mystery-drama series, which last year in the UK, was one of the most talked about television events of the year.

Gemma Foster (Jones), a doctor at the Parminster Medical Centre, seems to have the perfect life: she is happily married to property developer Simon (Bertie Carvel) with whom she has a young son; she is a trusted GP; and has many friends and a settled family - until one day she finds a blonde hair on Simon’s scarf.

Suspecting that Simon is having an affair, Gemma decides to investigate. At first she thinks the blonde hair may belong to Simon’s assistant Becky, but rather than confront him, she confides in her colleague Ros (Thusitha Jayasundera).

In her stressed state, she forces elderly doctor Jack Reynolds, who has become an alcoholic, to retire, and in return for a favour, helps a young patient, Carly (Clare-Hope Ashitey), get rid of her abusive boyfriend. But Carly’s favour is about to tear Gemma’s world apart.

When she finds a second phone in her husband’s car, she discovers a level of betrayal she couldn’t have imagined…

###Streets of Your Town

Tuesday 8 and 15 November 8:30pm

Streets of Your Town is a two-part series focusing on the aesthetics of our suburbs. Tim Ross – comedian, broadcaster and Architecture enthusiast – is tour guide for this very personal journey exploring how and why our suburbs look the way they do.

From the Modernist boom in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s to the McMansions that came to dominate our suburban landscape from the ‘80s, our design decisions say a lot about the times we live in, our shifting aspirations, and our confidence in the world.

Australians used to build small modest homes designed by pioneering architects including Robin Boyd, Syd Ancher, Roy Grounds and Harry Seidler but we now build the biggest houses on earth, 10% larger than the average American home.

Travelling the country and gaining unprecedented access to some of our most iconic homes and meeting their owners, peeling back their history and revelling in their beauty, Tim poses the question: from Modernism to McMansionism – how did we get here?

Episode One: Modernism: How Australia led the world in egalitarian home design

Episode Two: What killed modernism – and why is it back? Designer death and revival.
